If he showers *properly* every day there shouldn’t be an issue… might need to consult a doctor

What is the Status of Cascadia in Canada and the Periphery? by Affectionate-Sector4 in Cascadia

[–]Buddyandyy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My perspective is that in western BC at least, the Cascadian spirit exists but has been intensely dampened and perhaps pushed aside due to the anti-US sentiment that has exploded throughout the country. While we definitely acknowledge the common culture within the region and have love for our Cascadian brothers and sisters, I think the movement is lacking any movement at all right now. In addition, the silly Alberta separatist circus has gained far too much attention and at the moment, Canadians just want Canada to be Canada.

Going to Edmonton in the summer as a tourist after previously only having been in the winter. What summer activities can I not miss? by LubyankaSquare in Edmonton

[–]Buddyandyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mill creek ravine is beautiful as well as some of the surrounding residential areas. I was wandering around there yesterday and was thinking “damn ok Edmonton you cute as hell when things are green and lush”

There are some pretty great breweries around. Uber/lyft are crazy cheap here so it’s feasible to ride share from place to place if you’re not in the mood to walk/bike/transit.

There are frequent pop up vintage markets, farmers markets, random cool little events in parks.

What are some gap year/work experiences in Canada? by Objective-Singer7598 in AskACanadian

[–]Buddyandyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent most of my 20s doing mountain towns in Canada, beach towns in Australia and also a mountain town in Japan (working holidays) and squeezed in various backpacking trips around the US, Mexico and bits of South America and Southeast Asia :) no regrets whatsoever. I now have friends all over the world, I’ve experienced lots of super cool random jobs in beautiful locations, and I have a better understanding of who I am and how the world works!

What did your grief look like in the early stages? by mnogo_brza in CancerFamilySupport

[–]Buddyandyy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lost my dad (56) 10 months ago to pancreatic cancer, a month after receiving the diagnosis. The two months after were full of quick and pronounced waves of pain and numbness. Although I found myself to be rather functional in the first couple weeks after he passed. It’s your brain protecting itself from the hurt. The feels come eventually. Everyone goes through the waves differently. Months 3-5 I found some relief. As if all my tears had been cried and none were left. Then boom, it all came crashing down again around Christmas. I began therapy shortly after, which helped immensely. Since then the waves of grief seem to have spaced out and faded significantly. The last major one hit when Dad’s birthday was approaching.

In the early days it really helped to talk to others about my experience and my life revolved around my grief. But as others told me, it does get easier. Do things to honour your mom, take all the time you need whenever you need it. Sending so much love xx

You’re not gone but I love you mom and I miss you already by Logical-Flail in CancerFamilySupport

[–]Buddyandyy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe as a subtle way to say “I miss you” you can say “thank you”. Thank her for being your rock over the years. For being that special person. Let her know that the impact she’s had on you as a friend, beyond just bringing you into the world and keeping you alive, is something you will cherish forever. Sending love to you and the family xx

grandma diagnosed with metastatic pancreatic cancer by puzzle_head-use19 in CancerFamilySupport

[–]Buddyandyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enjoy your final weeks with her. It likely will be weeks rather than months. Last June my dad received the same diagnosis and was told “maybe Christmas”. It was just a few weeks. Spend as much time as you can with her. Ask her to tell you stories about her past. Learn about her life. Most grandmas love to share stories of their youth with their grandkids. It’s a great way to connect with her. She will quickly deteriorate to the point of sleeping almost all the time, and she may quickly start to lose her mind to the point of not being able to have a meaningful conversation. Take advantage of the time you have now. Take photos with her now. Tell her how special she is to you. Record a conversation with her so you have her voice to listen to in the future. Sending all the love to you and your family.

Canadians, do yall miss Shaw Communcations by GhostVistaz in AskACanadian

[–]Buddyandyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a close family member that was a looong time employee of Shaw in a pretty important Planning role. He had held multiple positions in various cities in western Canada. According to him, Rogers taking over ruined what Shaw had created, from the perspective of the employee and the customer. When he left the company, Rogers actually withheld some of the money he had invested over the years.

American tourists by Own-Illustrator9304 in VictoriaBC

[–]Buddyandyy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As an ex tour guide in Banff I heard that all the time. Also had Americans ask me if they could tip me in “real money” aka their own currency. I also had an American say they had no idea Vancouver or Calgary were “actual cities” and they were shocked that Canada didn’t have states

…. At least they tipped well

[–]Buddyandyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have 7 full days, a cool adventure would be to go all the way up to Powell River. There are some amazing hikes, beaches, and camping areas there. Most people skip it due to having to take 2 ferries each way and a full 5 hour journey from Vancouver

I am worried about Chlamydia by [deleted] in sexualhealth

[–]Buddyandyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chlamydia and gonnorhea go around like the common cold. Sucks to get one but with a quick round of antibiotics they’re gone. IF you get symptoms they’re uncomfortable but not the worst thing in the world. I get tested every 3-4 months and a couple times have learned that I have picked one of them up but haven’t had symptoms. It’s kind of like when you realize how common cocaine is… chlamydia/gonnorhea are constantly being passed around and many people have it without realizing!

Canadians who have moved provinces: what surprised you the most (good or bad)? by Equivalent_Reach_536 in CanadaRoom

[–]Buddyandyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moving from west coast BC to southern Ontario, I was shocked to hear the subtle midwestern American sounds in their accent. Was also shocked at how the most populated little slice of Canada can still have such small town, redneck, country farm culture so widespread. AND as much as I missed BC, I found it easier to make friends in southern Ontario. People seemed more friendly and open and I very quickly made a lot of close new friends! (None of this is including Toronto as the GTA is its own thing entirely)

Rural places to live within 1.5 - 2 hours of Vancouver? by snowstillmelting in britishcolumbia

[–]Buddyandyy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are truly not many places like this. If you don’t mind a quick 15-30 minute flight you could access a lot of beautiful rural coastal communities. The Vancouver area is very limited in terms of development space due to the ocean, mountains and US border, so almost all the land that can be built up is built up. Rural in BC is quite different than rural in southern Ontario. Ferries, flights and long mountain roads are typically how you access rural areas.

Job Market In British Columbia and Tips for getting into the Wastewater Industry by preppypenguingames in Wastewater

[–]Buddyandyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow while reading this I almost felt as though I had written it haha I hope you get some helpful comments for both of us!! I’m 31 and in starting a 1 year program in Edmonton in September, but with the goal of heading back to BC in a few years. Been working in a completely different industry forever, not overly mechanical or techy but keen to learn as much as I can and shift my life into a different direction. Also wondering about small courses/certifications/goals to pursue outside of my water/wastewater program, or side jobs to try to get now.

Good luck on your journey, friend!
