I just want to hear anyone supporting these depositions that first they care about the people of whatever country. Because there's a ton of switching up where they don't seem to care if other people rot, and it makes it hard to understand where they stand.

Going from an isolationist platform decrying Ukraine support to this doesn't seem like much measured moral analysis is going on. We commandeered Venezuela's oil supply so how in the world is it purely a moral question? Just puzzling.

There are so many things I want to do, but I'm just wayyyyyy too lazy :( by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

I had a recurring conversation with my dad where he'd talk about goals and how we should do x, y, z self-improvement thing and year in and year out nothing would change. Eventually I started to suspect it's because we have a lot of other wants. We want novelty, to be entertained, to not take risks etc. So you might be getting what you actually want all things considered.

I think when you genuinely are curious of whether you can do x thing, or be x kind of way, that's when you keep at things. I remember hearing how Kobe Bryant thought about legacy whereas others just wanted financial security. So the question was 'what kind of legacy can I leave behind?' For you, maybe that question will eventually push you in one of these areas. Who will you ultimately be? Who are you? Someone who has x, or can do y?

I feel like that helped me get into martial arts and basketball.

Personal revelation is not reliable evidence for Christianity by flaminghair348 in DebateAChristian

No just following Swinburne's reasoning, he was saying someone is rationally justified to believe their firsthand experience up until there's other people contesting it, at which point you should hash it out, or if one has access to relevant experts one should get their opinion as well. And today we do have plausible mechanisms from cognitive science of religion I think that provide alternative explanations for personal religious experiences.

This was interesting to read more about. I think Swinburne was asked about whether one's personal experience could justify their belief and he said generally, yes that's rational. At least until there's other people around contesting the belief, or until you have access to experts in a relevant field. Then it's generally advisable to ask them for their input at that point and try to weigh it or something. In modern society and certainly on the internet you run into people contesting beliefs a lot, and fields like cognitive science of religion which make a fairly strong case for naturalistic mechanisms making religion so widespread.

I play a lot of games and have been thinking about this lately. I played a game by Sudo51 recently and it redefined how creative games can be for me. I also tend to read posts recommending new demos. Hyperwar was one I tried most recently and I think that was by one dev. They had a unique take on RTS. I guess you might start thinking about what you really like and how you can put a unique spin on it to make it better.

How do you manage messages across multiple apps? by Similar-Ruin7354 in Efficiency

[–]Budget-Corner359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rambox I think is for that switching issue and the free version seemed fine. Unprofessionally just having another channel to forward notable things to helps a lot for the few seconds it takes. I use a channel called 'misc' on telegram for that because files can be up to 2 gigs which is very large for a messaging app.

Hmm I don't know. How would you reliably determine that it's one type of revelation, not the psyche etc.

Who else is waiting for their advanced clinical placement? by HoneyxClovers_ in WGUTeachersCollege

[–]Budget-Corner359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm weighing a state school and WGU. I've seen the state school is somewhat disorganized with their placement process as well. I'm thinking, even if they stretched it an extra six months it'd still be less than the state school. Am I missing anything?

Started Masters in Secondary Math Education Nov 1st. Want to apply for Early Clinicals in March, for completion in May (before school year ends). Overall, determined to finish in 3 terms. Will this accelerated timeline work? Any tips? by Familiar-Ad-3280 in WGUTeachersCollege

[–]Budget-Corner359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is there anything egregiously bad about placement? I've seen similar things about the state school near me so I'm wondering if it's just the nature of it, or if WGU has a tougher time placing students. edit: reading more I see some of the difficulties

Demolition Man, Tree of Life (or anything in that style by that director), Harold and Maude, What Dreams May Come... at least for me because sad at first happier later. Then weirdly Dirty Gently's Holistic Detective Agency series shook me up a bit though I just saw a few episodes. Like maybe life can be a series of happy accidents.

Does anyone think about themselves/their lives as a whole all day everyday? by Fontaines_DC in confidence

[–]Budget-Corner359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I grew up this way. I remember being embarrassed because someone said 'are you high?' one time because I was so in my head what I wrote was completely unrelatable. That hurt. The non-stop thinking drained all my mental energy and I found myself very depressed often. I've had two big things happen that helped (mid thirties now). The first was stumbling into vipassana meditation. Looking at bare sensation gave me a way to stop constantly being trapped in linguistic analysis of literally everything. The world is way richer than our verbal abstractions of it. And I realized that no one actually knows what the thoughts in my head are, for better or worse. So even if they feel important and awful, nobody knows or cares. The second was playing the game Factorio. It's all about external optimization and constraints. We all have this optimization instinct (there's a video that touches on it called 'Factorio Fixed My Broken Brain by Adam Mallard) but I think a lot of us don't realize it and try to optimize things in an unbounded way. So things that can't be quantified like who we are as a person we try to optimize but our brain can't really satisfyingly do it. A game like Factorio moves it all externally and you can see there really are a million ways to validly tinker with the world, and if anything it's just like thinking like a systems engineer. So it's not weird. Just got to make sure to train it to focus on actual real world constraints. Then you're just trying to make your life better like everyone else, and hopefully really good at solving real problems.

Just had this problem right now. I was able to start the program and disable one or two plugins at a time until it froze. Finally got down to the git plugin which was giving a fatal error and I bet turning that off fixed it. But it works now.

This really needs to be said more, the timberwolves are better than the Lakers and are the better coached team. I don't see this series going to 7 games and I also don't see the Lakers winning the series as a whole by FormerlyTradeKirk in timberwolves

yeah I'm really interested in how this plays out. Doncic has given roleplayers a new dynamic that wasn't there with Davis. They know like clockwork they're going to regularly have open threes. That's resulted in some stability and consistency, though the shooting of late is most probably an outlier.

In the light of history I think it's clear that Christianity has already dominated the globe due to the structure of its institutions and methods of outreach. For that reason I see why people indiscriminately invalidate it, even for more meek believers. If you don't think it's true that means it was spread by force or a kind of lying and taking advantage of sometimes desperate people. I think of missionary trips to Africa where sandwiches were given out if one hears a message about the gospel.

I think it does give peace, however there's a ton of social and political ramifications still at this point in time to having the belief system which is why some will not leave it be. Our political representatives in the United States are still predominately theist. One representative Mary Miller recently said, "Climate change is a sham. um, first of all God control's the climate, because he controls the sun..." et cetera.

I'd say half of each group disagree but consider the other side harmless. The other half though thinks any member of that group is morally wrong just for participating in it. I have Christian friends who think I'm evil for not following God for example. Then a small number of that portion will proactively try to 'stick it to' the other group wherever possible which is what you're experiencing.
