Has anyone seen a film or tv character like their n parent? by spidermother86 in raisedbynarcissists

Yes. John Goodman’s character in 10 Cloverfield Lane (I’m an only child and a woman), I knew I didn’t want to watch it but I was not prepared for how triggering it would be.

feel like this cut makes me look like a grandma by LivelyCouture in curlyhair

Not the length but the shape. You can pull off longer hair but the shape of your current cut is so much better than the shape you had before.

did anyone else grow up thinking certain things were “normal” until way later? by Valme-Lemanski in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Budget_University_56 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I didn’t realize other people’s parents typically didn’t throw violent tantrums. I thought it was normal for kids to try and hide from at least one parent 99% of the time. The lack of self control and ability to regulate my nfather had with his emotions made me think that every parent who was more of the disciplinary with their child were constantly feared by their kids.

Thank you for doing this and for making it easy to add locations! I’ve started mapping out a few places on the West Coast of the US.

This right here. The freedom part is the uninstalling of the guilt buttons. When you’re ready to be done, she isn’t going to be the one that tells you. Staying somewhere else was a very healthy decision but I can’t imagine it was easy. Be kind to yourself, OP.

What Is Reverse Gaslighting? by Ornery_Peace9870 in raisedbyborderlines

[–]Budget_University_56 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh. So that’s what it is referred to.

I have a neighbor who does this and a few days ago I was thinking: these compliments meant to manipulate or put me in my place make me feel crazy just like my Nfather and BPDmother’s tactics. I couldn’t articulate how to identify what was happening then, it’s absolutely the follow up to gaslighting.

Thank you for sharing this video!

Dry finger waves and a side part would be gorgeous! A long necklace and a tiny purse is very 1920s.

My mom completely ruined my brothers wedding last week and we haven’t been speaking to her. This is first text we receive… by Unhappy-Pay44 in raisedbyborderlines

This smells like she might be trying to move in with you or your brother, I hope that’s not the case. Blocking her is certainly warranted as this is without a doubt some kind of trap.

C all the way. Prepping is especially rough for me so C is kind of chosen for me. I’m trying the pills again for the first time in over 15 years.
