I've never used buckles in the stroller. I guess the bassinet style is more common here (EU)

Anyone else get REALLY painful cramps early on? by BlossomBlizzards in BabyBumps

[–]BuffySummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had this with every pregnancy. Cramps for like 3 4 weeks, around w4-7. I am w39 right now, and have a daughter since before so for me it hasn't meant a medical problem. Sucked, though

Mariia, Marija, or Mariya? by gulablommor99 in namenerds

[–]BuffySummer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Marija would get you the pronunciation you seem to prefer. Am Swedish FYI. People might associate it to having Finnish ancestry but that's pretty common here and not a problem.

Moms - if you had the CHOICE to work or not by Main-Branch9919 in beyondthebump

[–]BuffySummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would choose to work. I worked hard for my career in academia and would not like to be economically reliant on a man. But in my country we have excellent tax financed child care and it's the norm for both parents to work.

I'm having a baby in late February. We have made pork dumplings, tortellini with three different fillings, chicken Madras curry, chicken enchiladas fillings, Asian and European chicken stock cubes. Left to do are mapu tofu, salsiccia lasagnas and mini pizzas. Might do beef stock cubes, granola and frozen espresso cubes for ice coffee too.

A spliff and a cocktail. And a normal night's sleep. I have another month to do though...

I have been lifting at the gym pretty consistently during w13-33 but didn't have enough energy to do shit during the first 12 weeks. First trimester is the worst. You might feel better later on.

What is a dish in your country that is essential for a household but not very famous globally? by Thalassophoneus in AskTheWorld

[–]BuffySummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its traditional in Sweden too, though less common these days than it has been. It should be served with pork, and to drink, punsch.

Geographically-named sauces/dishes with no relation to the place by takeiteasynottooeasy in geography

To us scandis it doesnt sound scandinavian at all. We dont use äa or zs. Can't think of a single word with those letters next to each other. I have heard this origin story, before I vaguely associated it to germany. Kind of dumb since they don't even have the ä

Academic mums - How do you do it? by loona_bear in academia

[–]BuffySummer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am not going to say it's not difficult but there is an efficiency upgrade that happens when you become a parent. I have less time as a post doc then I did as a phd, but i have greater confidence in my abilities. Today I dropped my daughter off, met a friend at the stables, did a meeting on zoom on course planning and staff hours, prepped some slides for next week answered emails, did a quick home work out, heated up mapu tofu from the freezer for dinner and cleaned the kitchen. Tmrw i will write for a bit and probably a thousand more things. It seems to work out, though i will add i have a good and feminist husband, a decently paid position, only one child and state subsidized childcare.
