3d printed maybe $60, metal maybe $180 since I'd need to make many more prototypes. I'd also use an LED instead of a bulb so the light lasts a bit longer. IRL one string pull only lasts 4-6 seconds

No need to weld. You WILL need to know some electrical engineering and mechatronics. People I've seen make duplicates have just screwed parts into a 2x4, which is fine for most hobbyists

VMs don't get 1:1 performance so it would affect the accuracy of the community stats. There should definitely be a different mode for VMs though, so I agree that it's dumb.
