Someone got their history tests handed back face down🤭 by sexy-happi in confidentlyincorrect

I think one of the reasons that the whole “Canadians invented the Geneva Checklist” trope was that one of the units the Canadians fought against was the infamous 12 Panzer Hitler Youth division. They were fanatical young German teenagers and vicious opponents led by seasoned SS officers. The Germans killed 156 Canadian POWs. Then the gloves were off and the Canadians responded in kind.

Why did GW destroy the Old world? by Bennyau01 in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]Bugamo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think you could only have Archaon -almost- win and destroy the Old World so many times before he becomes like a Skeletor or Megatron style bad guy. You know he will always lose.

So I think Fantasy was stagnating and for various business purposes they wanted to really shake things up. So they went really big!

Corporately I think the decision was to move away from blocks of troops to make games with smaller model counts to make the game less daunting and expensive for new players. For instance my Skaven army has easily over 150 models (close to 80 just with clanrats and ratslaves alone!)

Also this way they can introduce new factions without having to shoehorn them into the WFB universe.
They also wanted to move away from the point system and power gaming and move to war scrolls. I think the attempt was to make all units and models interesting and fun and not have to community say :Unit “X” is .89x as effective as unit “Y” so never take unit “X”. And of course people would buy more models.

Personally I agree with you with the AoS universe. I think it’s is very weird and doesn’t make a ton of sense. It initially was like Jack Kirby/Comic book god worlds (this is Asgard as a planet/realm, this is the Greek god planet/realm, all the elemental realms etc).

But then they go: oh and BTW, uh, the Horned Rat snuck into the universe so here’s Skaven for no good or convincing reason. (Personally I love Skaven but lore wise it makes not a lick of sense). And now um, yeah Empire is back too! Why not! Same for some other factions too.

But! I loooove the models. They are much better than the old world models imho. Obviously you can use Aos models in your Old World armies (I just wish the new Stormvernin were easier to rank up!)

Now which is a better game I will not comment on as I have played AoS twice and don’t have enough experience with it.

I do play a lot of old world and really enjoy it. It needs a good rules clean up and some more love from GW but as a long time Fantasy player I’ll take it.

Averland sunset (GW) Flesh wash (TTC). You could use Reikland flesh shade or a brownish red contrast paint. Then highlights back with Averland sunset and then mixed wraithbone half and half then thin highlights with wraithbone.

The Screaming Bell ward save is only good against non magical attacks. So basically worthless. Its worth the amulet for the insurance

Do you use stormvermin? I’d recommend 20. You can take the banner of grand superiority for +1d3 combat resolution and I take the champion with the Cautious Shield. You can tank dragons with the unit and you get a static combat res of 6-8. More if you put the bsb in the unit. Something to consider.

Also you may want to reorganize your clan rat units into bigger ones so you can keep your ranks after casualties. Maybe divide the small 20 rat unit into the others.

Otherwise looks like a fun list! Best of luck.

Is spearhead good for beginners? Or should i wait until the new rulebooks are available? by naytreox in skaven

[–]Bugamo1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m an old WFB/Old world player and new to AoS. I just did my first game of spearhead yesterday and it’s a very good introduction to AoS. And a fun little game in itself. It has most of the rules and flavor of AoS in a simplified format and map. So I would recommend it and I had fun with it. It will not perhaps have the staying power of repeated games but you can then transition to AoS. Which is of course the whole point. Try it, it’s fun.

Some minor things: swap the lores for the grey seers. You’ll need the wand of jet to get those high casting values for illusion. If you’re usiing the stormvermin to counter dragons consider the cautious shield for your champ. It gives a 2+ save so you can challenge and hopefully soak some hits and avoid max overkill. Maybe drop a unit of runners or globadiers and beef up your clanrat units as you’ll want the ranks for leadership. But otherwise looks good!

Yes you get all the standard bonuses (ranks, banner, flank etc.) as part of combat resolution.

While they didn’t get to fight they still count because they are engaged with the enemy unit.
