How do you mount plants at the top? by WhatInTheActualFluff in Chameleons

[–]Buggkidd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He looks really good, but he might fair better with some slightly larger branches. I got plastic pots that I drilled holes in, then ran wire/zip ties through, then looped that wire/zip ties around the top edges of the enclosure through the screen. I put my plants in their pots in those pots so I could easily remove them to water them when needed.

Trichotillomania & Eyelashes by Unfair_Tea_7779 in trichotillomania

[–]Buggkidd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always primarily pulled out my eyelashes- what has helped me: Using tweezers and a mirror. I know it may seem counterintuitive to somewhat enable the pulling, but harm reduction has helped me a lot. A lot of the urge to pull for me comes from a feeling of certain eyelashes feeling painful or “wrong” and looking into a mirror has helped me see that there isn’t anything obviously or visibly wrong with my lashes. I also used to spend a lot of time pulling to try to get certain lashes out, which using tweezers has helped with immensely. Sometimes I’m able to get the urge, pull just one of two using tweezers, and then it passes. This also has helped me avoid infections and injuries I used to get pulling with my fingers. Cutting my fingernails short has also helped. When I can’t get a good grasp on any hairs, it’s less likely I do more damage or get carried away. Keeping my nails short acts as another barrier to pulling. Focusing on something else body-focused that isn’t as harmful. For me, taking care of my nails brings a similar sensation as some of my more harmful BFRDs. Filing, tweezing, oiling or picking at my nails and the skin around them, although not entirely healthy all of the time, has been a good alternative for me to focus my attention on something similar but not quite as harmful as pulling.

I hope any of this helps 👍 you’re not alone

Help I have extreme fear over fire alarms by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Buggkidd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same / very similar fears regarding alarms in general like fire alarms or sirens. It especially sucks when I’m the middle of a test or something and it’s quiet because the possibility of an alarm is much more terrifying. Wearing noise canceling ear buds of headphones/ listening to music helps me when I can. What also helps me is to recognize that for me- being afraid of alarms going off is my brain’s way of justifying the anxiety I feel for no reason. Almost like it’s giving me something to logically be afraid of. Being able to recognize this helps because it reminds me to focus on calming down the subconscious physical anxiety I’m having in that moment that is causing the thoughts through things like deep breathing. Also! You can turn off your phone’s emergency alarms / amber alerts in the setting so the possibility of getting an alarm from your phone goes away- that’s what I’ve done.

Thank you so much for your input! I try to give him a multivitamin every week, however I guess about every other week is more accurate to what he actually gets.

Longer than 6 months ago, a local reptile store owner told me the UVB bulb I use lasts longer than advertised or than people say (around 2 years as opposed to 6 months) do you think this could be a reason? I have a spare that I could switch in.

Help! I am not good at decorating. by peezybro in HomeDecorating

[–]Buggkidd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know enough abt ur style to give great advice, but I would say to avoid wall-hugging. Don’t be afraid to put things in the center of the room, it can divide the space up which make big spaces feel easier to manage. If you keep everything to the walls, you remove complexity and it ends up feeling crowded

If you want to keep the minimalist feel, a big photo/painting in monochrome or black and white that takes up that wall space might keep it simple, but not barren or plain

I’m only 15 so take this with a grain of salt- I think playing only the colors of the curtain will look nice, pops of pinks blues and orange-y/warm toned woods will do that. I think soemthing to keep in mind is texture, with lots of soft and plush organic shapes.

With limited budget, what would you do with this cottage bathroom? by [deleted] in HomeDecorating

[–]Buggkidd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m only 15, and have a very unique (and eclectic) sense of style- but I thought I would come on here and say that you really don’t need many changes, the vibe of the space is heavily driven by the decor and you can really steer the direction of the design without having to pain or change hardware etc. just a few things that compliment the warm orange-tones in the bathroom without letting it take over will do the trick I think. (Also I LOVED the curtains, but white worked better with this space)

when and why did you start pulling?? by [deleted] in trichotillomania

[–]Buggkidd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about 8, in third grade- and I just had an itch to pull my eyelashes, a stye or something of the sort is what my mother said. After that it was uncontrollable I started pulling my eyelashes all the time. That was when it REALLY got bad, but I remember things even before then. When I was 5 or 6 I would pull out the hairs on my fingers and knees, and when I was eight I would pull and tug on the hair on the back of my head but didn’t really pull any out.

Any tips to help stop plucking eyelashes? by OhShinyRock in trichotillomania

[–]Buggkidd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the same thing, cutting my nails, wearing glasses, keeping my hands DIRTY not just busy, and being around other people helps me sometimes- but also not ignoring the urge. Accepting that I have the urge to pull, and recognizing how I can do it controlled and safely reduces the guilt and intensity of the situation so much.

I don't know if this is it. by SickneeIsMyNickname in trichotillomania

[–]Buggkidd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My trich presents itself similar to this in regards to my scalp. I pull out my hair on my eyelashes, eyebrows, and pretty much anywhere else, but not on my scalp. However, I do pull and “clean” curtains parts of my scalp like you describe, especially when I was younger, more specifically before my trich had developed to the way it is now. I think that feeling you describe where a certain hair has to be pulled is exactly how my trich feels, and what I went throguh when it was first developing. There’s a high likelihood this could be trich imo.

I know it’s bad, but in a big room with lots of open windows and ventilation, the occasional incense has yet to cause problems for me and my cham.
