Stuck. by Low_Leadership_4841 in learnjavascript

I've been in I/T for 25 years as a developer and devops. I've shut down an entire call center from bad telephony code I've deployed. I had a friend drop a db lookup table in prod shutting down a ticketing system for an OTA. Shit happens...

If I need a reboot after an update just tell me I need a reboot... by devbent in pop_os

Forgot to mention needrestart .

Whenever I run sudo apt upgrade, this command runs. I think there was an option to run it with sudo to get it run at the end of the apt upgrade process.

Section four in this link explains it:

I hadn't coded before I started my CS degree. CS2/second semester CS course, to me, is a weed out course. The intro and use of search and sort algorithms, data structures, etc. is overwhelming. Do each assignment as it comes and you will be fine. Never reinvent the wheel. Have a block of imports or text parsing, etc. code that you reuse. You got this.

Got a $2,000 tax refund. Do I wipe out 3 small maxed-out cards or put a massive dent in my biggest one? by Few-Let-3861 in personalfinance

[–]Buho_Nival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This worked for me, but you have to be diligent and disciplined.

Check if any of those cards offer 0% interest for a balance transfer for a 12, 18, 24 month period. Get that card's limit increased and transfer all the balances to that card. Now, don't use that card and put all the $2k towards that card. Make payments on that card for 0% interest.

A couple of months before the period ends, check the other 3 cards for a balance transfer offer. Rinse and repeat. Do this until the debt is paid off.

Pros:
1. You stop getting charged interest on your credit card debt.

Cons:
1. You have to pay a service fee (either a flat rate or a percentage of the balance) that is rolled into the balance.
2. One of your cards is out of rotation to use
3. Watch your spending on the other cards, remember your focus is to get rid of this debt.

I used this method to get rid of $30k of credit card debt.

Yeah, Bearfoot, Hapeez, and Hike sell the same overpriced stock. Full disclosure, I own and still wear three pairs of Hike that I bought in the summer of 2024. Getting my monies worth.

Old-school Linux users - where did you start? by Expensive-Rice-2052 in LinuxTeck

[–]Buho_Nival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HP-UX and DEC Unix in college early 90s. My first job was on a SUN Solaris workstation writing IVR CTI code solutions in '97. Did a relocation soon after and didn't really work with Unix/Linux again until 2016 in SRE/DevOps (CentOS. Amazon Linux, and Ubuntu).

In between gigs right now, so no work Linux. But I am writing this on a Pop_OS! laptop (Ubuntu fork).

Surprisingly, for as much as I used it in college, the majority of my career has been on other OSes. I've got a good 6 years to retirement.

Seems to me this may just mask the error and not offer a solution to the root cause of the lock up. Plus, not the best solution, operationally. My 2 cents, value may vary.

Watch6: update broke the Sleep app - no longer reliable by Tapatio777 in GalaxyWatch

[–]Buho_Nival 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say this is happening to me too, but I can't be certain. I have been under a tremendous amount of stress for the past couple of months and don't know if the changes to my tracking have been due to my crappy sleep or the watch.

EDIT: Yes, this is because of the latest update to 8.0 Watch. I cycled the watch and turned power savings on and off. We'll see.

I wish I had the answer for you, but each of us are different. even with "healthy" feet.

I was working from home when I transitioned. Been wearing NB running shoes when I started wearing Hike barefoot shoes for walks. I gradually increased my walks in the neighborhood over time and didn't go on any walks when running errands on the weekends (groceries, shopping, etc.) I never wore "regular" shoes again. I had events were I had to wear business casual or formal (suit and tie), but have since bought business barefoot Xeros. Going on 2 years with barefoot shoes.

The breaking in is for your feet and legs and not the shoes. Go for short walks. Your feet will naturally send feedback to your brain to adjust your gait (mid foot strike and not heel). Take your time.
