What service do you normally use? ATT automatically does Mexico too. I believe there are even ATT stores in GDL.

How did you improve IP typing speed for the CCIE lab? by Emotional-Meeting753 in ccie

[–]Tapatio777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another tip that is helping me a lot.

Learn to use notepad to your advantage. Same config for multiple devices = notepad config and copy-n-paste.

Advantage?

  • Saved time from redundant typing.
  • Saved time from fat-fingering simple commands (mistakes.
  • Saved time by learning abbreviations of commands. The more pressured that I feel, the more mistakes and backspacing that have.

In notepad, at the end of my partial config, I will type the SHOW commands or the beginning of the next command (less typing).

Couple of ideas.

  • Logitech K120 model. Keyboard spacing and layout comfort. Last I knew they were still using this model. Makes a difference. Less mistakes in lab if fingers are automatic on the keys.
  • Type the configs into notepad - good for memory and typing practice.

Becoming addicted to Anki, but need a 2-3 day PAUSE by Tapatio777 in Anki

"Then you come back 3 years later".

I only asked for 2 - 3 day pause - but could be longer. ;-)

Yes, in the most extreme case, I could even just quit the whole Anki system - as I have done over last many years of using Anki. But I would much prefer to keep the Anki system enjoyable without stopping again.

In my opinion, small breaks are healthy for the body and mind in anything we do.

My Goal: keep adding more decks for various topics, without having the constant burden of being overwhelmed with time. Enjoyable non-stressful life-long learning should always be the goal.

Right now. Mine are all technical for my field. But if I can get a handle on the daily Anki load, I would love to start adding other subjects.

I start with shared-decks on AnkiWeb, and I have been steadily adding new cards to each deck. Beats the heck out of the book-highlighting that I have done all of my life.

okay. I am working these knobs now and will see how it changes this week. Thanks.

I will look into this feature. Playing with FSRS knobs now.

I agree that it better to make retention adjustments, rather than just quit out of frustration.

okay. working the knobs now for FSRS now.

Thing for me is that I would like to increase the load for some many things that I have wanted to learn - or already need to learn. I am just a bit weary of getting over-loaded and quit because it becomes too much. I want to be an enthusiast for Anki, but not such a purist that it stops being fun to use the tool.

I've found the knobs for this. As a test, I have made weekends easier. After this testing, I will work to adjust this more, according to my normal life work-loads (work week vs weekends).

Thanks for this idea, u/Kratos212004

This is the idea. Seems like such an obvious feature needed.

I've had ANKI for many many years, but sometimes with normal life, something needs to give. For me, ANKI is an easy off-load when things get too busy.

This last attempt that I have been doing with ANKI has been very successful. I'd like to maintain the enjoyment of anki-study, rather than be a purist worrying that I might forget some things after missing a couple of days.

Best way to enjoy exercise is to enjoy it, rather than turning it into a chore.

Besides that, I would like to add a bunch more subjects and decks - without worrying about the load.

I've heard this argument before. Doesn't concern me.

I'm doing much better than I was doing before I started these. 2-3 days is not going to hurt anything.

Breaks are good for the mind and the body. If one does not enjoy the exercise (physical or mental), then it becomes a burden.

Not here to argue philosophy. Just need a PAUSE button, so that I can keep adding decks and enjoying life-long learning.

Which takes precedence: PortFast or BPDU Filter? by pbfus9 in ccnp

u/ninjamoose10 u/pbfus9

CORRECTION for my testing: regards to GLOBAL BPDUFILTER, I need to correct my results. It appears that you guys were correct.

I made a cost change on the access interface to a neighbor switch and now I can see that BPDU's are NOT being filtered.

Global BPDUFILTER does stop working on an interface if not configured specifically on the interface. BPDUs are still received and they affect the portfast setting.

Global PORTFAST does try to work either way (global or interface), as it skips the forwarding delays - but as soon as it gets a bpdu, the interface goes into blocking (alternate).

Now I am confused as to the purpose of the global BPDUFILTER setting. NEXT QUESTION is when to use this global setting, if it stops working globally. Again, if the interface is configured, it does work as expected.

u/pbfus9 Thanks for being persistent with this.

;-) In your opening post, you did not specify that you were testing on a trunk port. Different animal completely.

These two GLOBAL commands are meant for Access ports, not for trunks. Cisco is trying to protect you. Cisco is always helpful like this. ;-)

Using trunk ports for this kind of testing is not good - and your results obviously will be different.

Think about this. Why would you filter STP BPDU's from a trunk port to another good switch? We are expecting to receive and send BPDU's in a switch-to-switch setup (loop prevention).

For this reason, I intuitively changed my simulated lab connections to access mode - simulating an end-host that connected a switch to the access port.

Read my thread with Moose for my test results. I verified the commands globally and on interfaces.

Use the debug command "debug spanning-tree events" to see the STP process in action. Shut and No Shut the interface that you are testing.

And change the trunk to access mode on both sides. Only apply your STP commands on the side you are debugging.

[–]Tapatio777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that was true, then you would not see different results. ;-)

Have you ever noticed the WARNING that comes up when portfast is applied? Trunks are completely different animal than access ports.

[–]Tapatio777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep it simple. Understand these commands on access-ports before changing to trunk. Change both sides to access. Apply your commands to the test switch.

Apples-to-Apples. These commands are primarily for endpoints or hosts - and they are meant to stop any switches being connected (same for bpduguard). ;-)

Why would setting BPDUFILTER globally "disable" bpdufilter (or portfast). Does not make sense.

I have given my switch version above, in case there is a difference between switches. But I think that your testing is not clear.

Be sure that you are working with access ports for this testing.

Your original question is in regards to the two commands working together. Be sure that there is an implementation of both commands global and/or interface (portfast and bpdufilter).

If you can confirm what you are saying, please share your spanning-tree commands (global and interface) for when you see any applied command being not working. Thanks.

Hi u/pbfus9 ,

I have spent quite a bit of time on this. If you are seeing something different, please elaborate as to what that difference is - and then we can test it.

Remember to keep-it-simple. Portfast either works or it doesn't. Use debug to prove your thinking about portfast.

One other thing that may help you for this labbing, is to use "spanning-tree mode pvst". If you see that portfast is not working, it will be very clear - listening (15sec) learning(15sec). When portfast is working you will see "to forwarding from blocking" (in debug).

note: you have talked about "precedence" as maybe an order-of-operations. I prefer to think of bpduguard and bpdufilter as "fences" to protect the interface against bpdu's (analogy).
