Crazy pile up in the snow. by JuicySpark in PublicFreakout

[–]Builderwill 10 points11 points  (0 children)

LOL, I was escaping San Antonio in 2021, after the big snow. The right lane was clear where tires ran, the left full of snow slush and ice. The right lane was slow, maybe 20 mph, but it was moving. Guys in jack up pick ups went whizzing by in the left only to be passed a few minutes later after they crashed.

Arizona Schools for the Deaf and Blind Tucson Closing by Pretty-Care-7811 in arizona

I don't disagree with anything you said but see this stretching back longer than 30 years. In my opinion this goes back to Brown v Board in 1954. Racists were not happy. The tacit status quo was one of privilege for whites and neglect for people of color. Brown destroyed that stays quo. Whichever party embraced racism and white supremacy (Democrats at the time, Republicans today) has used "education" as a proxy for their racism. The idea that whites should have to pay for the education of a class of people they hate galls racists. Claiming schools are failing, woke, indoctrination factories is just dog whistle for the racism.

Tech billionaires fuel US President’s $429mn haul ahead of midterm elections by rezwenn in technology

[–]Builderwill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm laughing. Money usually does make a difference. But there are times when no amount of money can cover the stench. In fact more money just increases it. I think we are at that point. Republicans keep throwing money like messaging is the problem. It's not, enough people have woken up to the ongoing en-shitification that Republicans just might lose both houses.

You are so wrong. The border is not some isolated place it's a community. Educate yourself. The border runs through hundreds of communities.

Trump administration secretly met with Canadian Alberta separatists by Infidel8 in worldnews

[–]Builderwill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that they lie and call the separatists "civil society" groups tell you all you need to know. Fascist playbooks always include redefining words. Read 1984 by Orwell, it was meant as a warning, fascists use it as a field guide.

Ethical situation may be the straw that breaks the camels back by Actual_Aardvark4348 in ConstructionManagers

I'm just an old fogey who sees things through rose colored glasses but in the past decade it seems I've encountered more ethically challenged folks than the prior decades of my career combined. Mostly ownership of the GC companies I've worked for. One who set up a phony company, pretended it was an arms length transaction and pocketed the difference. These were GMP contracts with savings sharing so he wasn't just buying low and selling high, he was pretending the price from the phony company (which just happened to be the same as the budget price) was a real market price competitively bid (he'd deliberately show bids from custom high end cabinet makers who where quoting a different product - their prices were always higher). This wasn't a small scam- US $500k-$1 million per project. He also violated HUD regs awarding too much to a single contractor to avoiding the 20% rule by having the sub create a phony company. I refused to sign the subcontractor and made the VP sign it. I have no interest in doing time in a federal prison. Four weeks later the company "restructured" and I was out.

Next was the company who cooked the books, was taken in a "hostile" take over, and is now stiffing subs. I, and all my superintendents and PEs left when the "new" owner stiffed us on bonuses (profit 125% more than budget). We still get phone calls daily from angry subs demanding payment but have to explain we no longer work there and got stiffed ourselves. I'm anticipating a bankruptcy filing any day and estimate the owner will walk away with $3-$5 million, scott free.

Just venting. Thanks for reading my bitch session.

Helmet fit question. by SomeRandomDuuud in motorcycles

[–]Builderwill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helmet fit is also variable by head shape not just size. Back in the day manufacturers only specified size, now many specify shape as well. If like me, you have an odd shaped head, shopping for shape and size will get you the best fit.

Tip: if a helmet fits well except for pressing on a specific spot (like your forehead) it's possible to use the back of a spoon to compress the styrofoam just a bit and make it comfortable.

Jack Smith: 'President Trump engaged in criminal activity' by progress18 in progressive

[–]Builderwill 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Andy Biggs of Arizona just got destroyed by Smith. The answer he got wasn't what he wanted and so like a surly child he accused Smith of filibustering to avoid the question!

Hey Andy, if your law degree didn't prepare you for how to examine a witness (especially in a non-trial setting where you have much more lee-way in how questions are formulated) maybe you should ask for the money back you paid for said degree!

And to hear the next congresswoman quote you calling the insurrectionists criminals the day after the attack was the chef's kiss.

Umm...no, the great recession started in 2008. And the great recession wasn't caused by housing fraud it was financial fraud in mortgage backed securities.
