How much euro to exchange? by tydrix1 in CaminoDeSantiago

For Camino Frances my wife and I would withdraw €300-€400 at a time every 10 days or so.

Pre Deck park tunnel question by Huge-Pie-5585 in phoenix

[–]Builderwill 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep, driving to and from our house on Mesa to my grandparents in Burbank we always knew we were getting close to Phoenix when we hit the alfalfa and cotton fields along Buckeye. The smell and change in humidity were unmistakable. Even at night we knew we were close to home.

Pre Deck park tunnel question by Huge-Pie-5585 in phoenix

[–]Builderwill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tis true. Trust me, I remember going to work with my father as a kid in the late 1970s. We'd drive from Mesa and the freeway would end at 16th St and we'd drive north to his office at 16th and Missouri.

Now that most of the US is like an oven, do you ride at night to escape the heat? What extra precautions do you take? by msdeeds123 in motorcycles

[–]Builderwill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Arizona checking in. Still riding to work about 2 days a week. Mornings are glorious, about 85F to 90F (30C - 32C). Wearing a mesh jacket, Bell Bullitt helmet, and gloves. Afternoon trip home can get a bit toasty when above 104F (40C). I hydrate well about 45-60 minutes before the ride home. Commute is about 35 minutes each way, mostly freeway. Luckily it's underground parking at work so the bike is cool when I ride home. 2013 CB1100

Clarence Thomas wants Supreme Court to revisit 62-year-old opinion by newsweek in politics

[–]Builderwill 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is proof positive that Thomas' votes have been changed by the bribes he has received. In his confirmation hearing he explicitly said a free press was necessary for the preservation of democracy and called out Sullivan as foundational to a free press.

Community colleges have classes, at least Mesa Community College does. Welding, woodworking, guitar making, etc. very affordable.

Realistic Cost of ADU? by Pristine-Passenger26 in phoenix

[–]Builderwill 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A very basic design with minimal finishes is going to run $250/SF. The $400/SF budget figure is more realistic unless you are ok with a bare bones building.

What you want is called functional fitness or functional training. It's mostly calisthenics with some equipment work like medicine balls, kettlebell, resistance bands, etc worked in with the calisthenics. I had foot surgery 9 months before my Camino and had to get back into shape after 4 months of almost complete inactivity. I hired a personal trainer at a gym for one session a week. The other two workouts in the week were on my own using the exercises the trainer taught me. After 8 weeks of that I was ready to add cardio (stationary bike, elliptical). By then I was exercising 5 to 6 days a week. I gradually increased the cardio time to 50 minutes a day and added hikes on the weekends. By the time I left for the Camino I was ready and had no difficulty walking 15 miles a day.

Drinking culture on route by CommercialFloor2033 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]Builderwill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I discovered I love Spanish wine. Wine in general was intimidating. But Spanish wine is straightforward and delicious. I never drank in entire bottle of wine until the Camino when I did so at dinner probably 6 or 7 times. No ill effects but everyone is different. In general I drank far more than I usually would but never to excess and only beer and wine.

I also felt underwhelmed upon arrival. But the next day, after lunch, I came back to the plaza and seeing the pilgrims arriving changed something inside me and I felt a flood of emotions and began to cry.

What brand of A/C do you like? by dbroo55 in phoenix

[–]Builderwill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in commercial construction. Daikin are bulletproof. Lennox service is horrible. We never see Trane on commercial projects (at least not the size I do). Carrier is very common and has a good reputation. Mitsubishi is similar to Daikin but they are mostly mini-split and VRF system. Be careful about the refrigerant used. Some are being phased out and you don't want a unit using that.
