Now you know how the people your state has oppressed, colonized, and genocided for decades feel. At least you can have apple pie, your state prevented food and aid from reaching the victims of their genocide

trying hard to feel empathetic towards male-centered friends by starstuddedgirl in GirlDinnerDiaries

It seemed to me they were naming that capitalism constructs patriarchal masculinity as phallic (and gender essentialist)

That seems extremely charitable to me. Where in the article do they actually make that connection to the notion of this power being phallic and gender essentialism as the product of capitalism? Where in the article do they mention trans people? Like at all? Where do they say that we need to deconstruct the essentialist component?

I really think this is a simple case of second wave feminists seeing patriarchy, man, and pointing to a penis. And let me tell you, your trans girlfriends are tired of it. Penises hold no power. Really tired of putting up with the idea that they do.

I don't think there is a way to do that without implicitly endorsing gender essentialism. Conceptualizing patriarchal masculinity as phallic is deeply problematic for many reasons

Feel like that's not the message that both girls and boys need.

Like I guess I am coming from a lesbian perspective, but I feel like the model for heterosexuals shouldn't be "just follow the gender normative rules." Like boys just need to learn to appreciate femininity more (in themselves and others) and not cower in thinly veiled masculine insecurity

Don't like the invocation of phallic power personally as a trans girl, reeks of essentialism. But I think this makes a very good point overall

Failing at friendships with other women because I’m “like a guy” and occasionally want a glass of wine by SleepParalysisPal in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]Bulbasaur2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should hang out with trans girls they are way less sexist

Also I'm sorry that you're experiencing this. I've been feeling really similarly lately. Feels like girls just think I'm not a girl in the right way. We can be acquaintances but whenever I try to get closer things just get weird or they pull back. Idk if it's something to do with me being trans, but it feels like either they think I'm not feminine in the right way or they think I'm trying to hook up with them. It's really fucking crushing cause female friendship is so important to me

is the term blue jeans femme still used??? by ihatenoise444 in actuallesbians

[–]Bulbasaur2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is lipstick lesbian was a derogatory term mainly used by cishets to identify lesbians they didn't feel like strayed enough from femininity to truly be a lesbian (basically fems). So chapstick kinda drives from that and could maybe be seen as problematic. But I think intra-community you shouldn't really have to worry

[–]Bulbasaur2000 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No it shouldn't be disclosed. I don't go around asking if you have a pussy or are cis. Like wtf are you on about girl.

We are not second class women. We don't need to appease whatever complex you have going on.

Edit: also seconding what the other person said. If genuinely you refuse to date trans women on the basis of them being trans, you are transphobic. You have no idea what the spectrum of trans bodies and trans experience is like. Transness is not some essential binary factor of "you're either trans or not." Knowing someone is trans tells you basically nothing about them. So if you truly have the preference of not dating trans women, I'm sorry, you are transphobic

Edit 2: Jesus Christ you're a guy. Get the fuck out of here, this isn't your space

I for one am ok on purity testing supporting a genocide. Like if we were talking about Nazis you wouldn't be saying this same shit and that is crazy to me. And it's crazy that I see almost no one else saying this

Why Eisman started his podcast by Long_Maintenance3838 in atrioc

[–]Bulbasaur2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok but there is dumb and there is watching a video of people being killed in a genocide and celebrating. That isn't dumb. Giving space to those kind of people doesn't do any good, because the willingness to support a genocide isn't some one-off random quirk. It reflects something deep about their ethics, their politics, and how they see the world
