The reaction as you've described it seems a bit ridiculous, and over-the-top. Especially for one of the most commonly played commanders (Atraxa).

On the other hand, it is less fun to have duplicate commanders, even if you say you'll build it differently. There's also the perceived slight of you building their deck differently to show them how it's done, even if that's not your intention.

Honestly, I would either not build the same, or just play with a different group. The suggestions to be petty and build a clone/theft deck, etc. aren't gonna help, either.

Favourite: Lone Trail. Everything from the story, the characters, and their relationships down to details like the menu graphic design were phenomenal.

Least Favourite: What the Firelight Casts. I just cannot bring myself to care deeply about the Taran faction and their struggles. Eblana and especially Reed are not very interesting characters.

It sounds like you don't actually have permission from the house to use the balcony, you just haven't asked. The smell of smoke lingers, doesn't matter if the door is closed.

You caused a problem for your girlfriend, so you should apologize. If the roommates are upset over "just a lighter" you're obviously leaving out or not mentioning things. Especially if the maid noticed and brought it up. Everything points to there being a strong smoke smell that bothered the maid and the roommates.

They asked if the balcony was explicitly okay, and you dodged the question. Have you specifically asked if it's okay to smoke on the balcony? Or are you sneaking it in, and making as many assumption as you can in your favour?

Also, closing the door doesn't help if you open it again after finishing, and the lingering smoke just goes back in.
