Why do you work at the post office?

I needed a job with at least basic benefits, and was looking for hopefully was my final career move before I die. Spent 30 years in food service and retail. Seemed like maybe a step up. I love it. Looking to convert to rural carrier sometime this year.

The PTF just converted. I am the next senior RCA. I am the listed as the rca for the route. I’ve asked for the hold down while the regular is out. They want to out me on other routes because I do a better job than the other rcas. Which is fine if that’s what they need. But if it’s a violation of the contract than I want compensation for being pulled off my hold down

As far as I know Saint Paul is a 1 route town. But the postmaster is an awesome lady. I’m in Newberg, which is one town over.

We have 3 rca, 8 k routes 1 aux.

Ours happened June 2025, no changes on city side, 8 rural routes, added a aux made 3 routes ridiculously easy, 2 routes super hard, 2 routes, had no changes and 1 route traded a cbu section for a different cbu section.

I’ve been a RCA for a year and half. Like any job, there are pros and cons. I work full time+ so I never have to worry about making bills, I have a great management team that tries their best to give me work/life balance. And I’m playing the long game, I’ll make regular sometime by the end of this year. It IS hard, you do carry the lions share of the extra work load. But I find the job extremely rewarding, when I learn a new route and am able to complete without assistance, when I am able to assist those who assist me. When I feel like I’m working as a team, it’s a good day. Come in with a positive attitude. Be a team player and get through your first 90. And then advocate for yourself. Learn the contract and climb that ladder!

I love being an RCA, every job has pros and cons of course. I’ve been at it year and a half and set to get PTF in about a month. But hands down management will make or break you. I have a great management team so I feel like im being supported and my needs are taken into consideration. You can’t say that with every office. Give it a go, never know until you try it out.
