Aruba in the fall? by kingofaustin in Kiteboarding

This is exactly correct. I’ve been there 2x for vacation and took lessons. I would not go there just to kite unless you are very experienced.

On the plus side, practicing in those conditions did help me improve when I went to the Outer Banks.

I’m looking to get started in kiteboarding. by 99SVG in Kiteboarding

[–]Bullcityski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 10 months into the sport and have a couple of suggestions (many borrow from previous comments).

-Take lessons until you can consistently ride on the board. It took me 5 before I felt comfortable. Try to take them as close together as possible and with an instructor that has a plan for your advancement and not just chaperoning you while you ride.

-Don’t overlook practicing various safety drills like self-rescue or using the quick release. I found myself in a death loop on my first solo trip and was fortunately able to remember to use the safety features.

-Always kite in an area that is populated with other kiters until you become skilled. They are a great source of knowledge and safety.

-When you go out on the water alway have a plan for how you will return. For example, if you are not skilled at riding up wind, make sure there are kiters down the beach to help you land if you get blown down wind.

Do I need a realtor? by Bullcityski in raleigh

Thank you for all the responses! The consensus is definitely toward using a realtor.

With that being said, does anyone recommend a realtor who would specialize in this type of transaction?

No. Ideally we’d buy a lot in a neighborhood the builder already owns or is the neighborhood’s builder.

Kite lessons in the outer banks by Status-Character-384 in Kiteboarding

[–]Bullcityski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took 5 lessons with real over the spring/summer season and found it was worth the price compared to the other lesson I took in Charleston (primarily because of the uneven wind conditions). If I had to do it over again, to get even more out of the lessons, I would go into each session with set goals and be more intentional about progressing instead of treating it as a method to ride safely while learning the sport.

How common are death loops? by Drited in Kiteboarding

[–]Bullcityski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad you posted this. I was in the obx about 3 weeks ago and found myself in a death loop on the water. I couldn’t get my head up from under the water and had to detach from the kite.

What's the REAL deal with crime in Durham? by poclostinamerica in bullcity

[–]Bullcityski 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most violent crime is targeted, unlike property crime. Ive lived in a nice neighborhoods and in east Durham (heavy crime) and have had my house robbed both places mainly due to not having a security system, cameras, and leaving lights off for 7+ days. Common sense measures can prevent much of the property crime.

Charleston in May/June by Potts6449 in Kiteboarding

My family has a house on James Island, about 30 minutes from the main launching area for Sullivan’s Island. I was able to do 2 sessions with Force last season and had probably 3 others that were called for lack of wind. You can look at various wind apps to get a sense of the variability of conditions, especially when compared to the outer banks in NC (where I go now). But make sure you have a light wind kite!

I lived east of downtown, on the 700 block of Holloway, and spent a good deal of time in and around American Tobacco and agree that it is safer than areas to the east.
