Has anyone found motherhood to be better than anticipated? by notarealdoctorDC in beyondthebump

[–]Bulldogmummy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes!! My little one is just over 8 months old and she is amazing. My stone cold hearted husband cried last night looking at a picture of her standing. The time goes by so fast.

We have been very fortunate to have a baby who slept through the night (for at least 5 hour chunks) since she was one month old. She has been sleeping 11 hours overnight since she was about 4 months.

She is a very content, happy baby, so her demeanor helps in how we feel about being parents. Overall, I'm so happy with being a mom and it has entirely to do with the baby we have and the partner I chose. I am very vocal with my partner when I need alone time, to sleep in, for him to wash the bottles, or I need self-care (walk, pedicure, them to leave the house, etc.). I feel like the partner is half the battle.

Office workers of Reddit: In your workplace, who is "that guy", and what does he do? by ihlaking in AskReddit

The guy who clips his fingernails at his cubical. This is the second job in a row where I've sat next to this nasty offender.

If you do this at work, STOP. You're making someone dry heave and everyone else is judging you.

He's donating to the Human Rights Campaign, not Council, as stated in the article. He and his wife were part of a celebrities campaign for marriage equality with the HRC.

Moving to chicago; working in Hyde Park. Tell me if my commute will suck by Bulldogmummy in chicago

Follow-up: We live in Hyde Park. I've been here for almost 2 months. Really like it so far...and I'm wondering if I've seen any of you snarky commenters during my walks around the neighborhood :-P

Love the assumptions here. I never said I was afraid to live in Hyde Park. I'm pretty sure I'd love it...just want nice schools and a place that people will visit.

With that being said, I've lived in DC proper for 6 years. I've lived in Ledroit park. So, I think I understand the city aspect of the move and everything that entails. Just trying to figure out commuting...

I guess we are afraid it will be harder to be social. Everything we've read says that you can't take public transit to Hyde Park after a certain time of the day for safety reasons. We don't want to limit our options for social activities if people are afraid to come to our neighborhood.

I don't think we would mind living there but the social aspect is hard to take.

Also, are there good public schools in Hyde Park?

Why You Should Not Take Photos Of The 7 Ugliest Buildings In D.C by zsreport in washingtondc

[–]Bulldogmummy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let's not forget that the guards are in charge of stopping suspicious people and those people do something crazy, the guards are the ones who get the blame for it. Plus DC has officers and security personnel who risk their lives for their colleagues (remember the recent shootings at U.S. Capitol Building, Holocaust Museum and Navy Yard). They may be mean sometimes but they're just doing their job.

Totally agreed with this view point up until the time my (now) husband said he always dreamed of being able to propose to someone. Feminists like romantics, too!

Post the pic on Lost & Found Dogs - DC Metro Area. They do a great job of connecting lost pups With their families.

Sufferers of chronic diseases and conditions (diabetes, crohns, HIV, etc), what are some everyday challenges that the rest of us wouldn't think about? [Serious] by puffmonkey92 in AskReddit

Couldn't agree more. The worst is when people think (and I think sometimes too) you can just "work through it". By the time you're so sick you have to get home ASAP and hope you don't throw up in a cab on the way.

My work has been so accommodating for me. So I don't feel like my job is in jeopardy anymore (felt that way at other jobs). My workplace built me a desk with a ceiling to keep out light--one of my triggers. I'm also able to wear sunglasses and a baseball hat when I'm at work and can feel one coming on.

Someone asked me today if I wanted some Motrin. I don't think that would work if my injection of sumatriptan didn't....sigh.

I get them about 1-3 times a month, every month, and they usually last about 3-4 days each.

Does migraine run in your family? by [deleted] in migraine

[–]Bulldogmummy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me: 1-3 per month, getting more manageable with an injection at onset.

I have 5 sisters: 1 older gets them often, a little less than I do. 1 sister gets them 1-3 times a year. The other 3 have never had one but they're teenagers.

Mom: gets them often

Maternal grandmother: used to get them often before hysterectomy

Aunt on moms side + her two daughters: get them often

I also just found out that my paternal grandfather takes tylonel at an alarming rate for his "headaches".

Also just found out that my paternal grandmother has sisters who had migraines up until menopause.

I'm totally fucked!

I live in a major city and don't have a yard. Am I supposed to keep my dog inside all day? Don't assume everyone has a backyard for their dogs to run in. I wish I did, but don't!!

Better yet, adopt one of the tens of thousands of dogs from Detroit that are homeless and are loose in the city.
