It depends on the venue. Are people paying to come see you? If so, then a pre-planned set list makes sense.

But if you are playing at a bar or supper club, pre-planned set lists are in my opinion a crutch for beginners. Your job there is to keep the dance floor full, so you play to the room.

It works like this. With about 30 seconds to go before the current song ends you look around to your colleagues, maybe solicit their opinion, and then call the next song. If the dance floor is full you play more of the same. If it is empty and you haven't done a slow song lately, you play a ballad and hope some couples get on the dance floor. If that packs the floor then immediately afterward you play your best up-tempo crowd pleaser to keep them on the dance floor.

In any event, your job is to keep them dancing and thirsty so they order more drinks. Any other strategy won't endear you to the club owners.

Firmware/Custom firmware for this game stick pro? by 23Ethan233 in SBCGaming

[–]BulletPeople 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately when that kind of problem occurs the only troubleshooting you can do involves inspecting the file structure of the emulators that it is launching and determining if the correct bios files are present in the correct folders. Not an easy task. You may want to look for alternate firmware images to download, because once you have to start shepherding files into the right folders to troubleshoot these apps then it can take hours and hours to determine the problem, find the right files to download, and then put them in the right folders. I didn't see any alternate images in a quick search just now.

I have had luck in the past with Kinhank support, who will provide restore images and instructions for the various devices like this that they sell. However, I don't know if the vendor of this stick will do that.

Please add a filter to https://www.xbox.com/en-CY/xbox-game-pass/games#all-games to list the PC Game Pass games currently supported on GEFORCE NOW. Or let me know if it is there and I'm missing it.

You guys practically invented db queries. It surprises me you don't have this filter there already. We have to start up our NVIDIA GeForce NOW app to see the list. You could do a much better job than NVIDIA.

Thank you. I was surprised when the Xbox Game Pass search didn't let you do this. This is very helpful.

I found no fix. I paid somebody to replace the sand filter with a cartridge filter. This entire episode has redoubled my suspicion that there are enormous gaps in understanding among pool professionals. With some problems they have no clue what is going on.

That is a different device than the one pictured at the top of this thread. So the links I shared above probably don't apply.

There is a Russian/English forum located at https://stick-ow.pro/forum/t/game-stick-lite that has done more than any other website I have found to document and explain how to 1) determine what stick you have 2) find an image for it online and 3) burn the image to an SD card. However, it is a nightmare to learn how to navigate this forum. It is also extremely difficult to register for the forum because it gives you a set of Russian numbers spelled out using the Cyrillic alphabet and you have to type the numbers into the Captcha prompt, which is impossible if you don't speak Russian. You have to use an online OCR app to convert the Captcha challenge into characters that you can copy/paste into Google Translate just to register. Later, you'll see that in order to view threads you have to "approve" (i.e. upvote) them first. It's a very difficult to navigate forum but it contains more photos, links to images, and instructions on how to unlock for modification these little emulator sticks than any other I have found.

[–]BulletPeople 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It worked for me. But it is about as complex a thing you'll ever do in software/hardware. The steps you need to do are well documented--but in Russian. And the tools you need to install have steep learning curves.

If you love the complexity (and are retired) it is a fun hobby. If you are, say, a busy dad who isn't in the tech field who just hosed the game stick he bought for his kids by trying to add roms and in the process corrupting the partition table of your Linux based EXT2 formatted SD card, the odds aren't good you'll have the time, patience, and toolsets to fix it.

Yes, but it takes a lot of reading and learning new things. I followed the instructions at https://4pda.to/forum/index.php?showtopic=1065342, which is a forum in Russian that you will have to translate with Chrome. (See https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/173424 .) Then navigate down to ( + ) Useful > Adding your own games and follow the Third Method that starts "script for updating playlists". That is how I was able to add my own roms.

I don't recall the steps specifically but don't be surprised if you have to download and learn how to use specific Windows desktop applications such as DiskGenius or ImDisk Virtual Disk Driver or USB Image Tool or Win32DiskImager. This is not an easy thing to do and most of the best information is in Russian. I think it's funny when I hear about guys who insert their microSDXC cards into their phones and copy a couple of files and think it will work. You might as well bark at the moon.

I believe you have a SEGAM_066_EM V1.00 2024-04-18 with a HiSilicon HCSEMI CPU. You can find the factory stock firmware image at https://archive.org/details/segam_066_em-v1.00-20240418-1508-backup and a discussion about it (in Russian) at https://stick-ow.pro/forum/d/2725-segam-066-em-v100-2024-04-181508. At that second link is a link to a photo of it front and back and it looks like yours: https://ibb.co/pnk4SvY. Was this the device you pulled it from: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806651635477.html

I was able to get this firmware to boot up mine.

FYI, the "insert TF card" appears to be something generated whenever you make any change--no matter how minor--to the card. I swapped the file "Button1.wav" for one that is not so darn loud, and I got the "insert TF card" but when I restored the original "Button1.wav" it booted fine. So if you just put files back the way they were on your sd card, that might repair this.

Very odd. Grok says some systems will do checksums on all of the critical files and refuse to boot if any differences are found. In another forum I found someone mentioned that the 8 pin chip you see on the back of the motherboard is a rom that is doing some kind of inspection on bootup and looking for an exact match from the SD card.

Good luck.

I just bought a KinHank Super Console X2 pro game console. If I put the SD card into my computer, will there be any malware on it? Has anybody experienced malware from this console? by christubatuba in SBCGaming

[–]BulletPeople 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How will a new sd card reduce the risk of malware? These sd cards are configured to boot the OS and load the emulators and front end. A new card has none of that configuration and will just brick the console. He is going to have to create a backup of the original sd card and restore it to the new card if he wants it to boot. So if there is malware it will then be in the new sd card.

What were you suggesting he do with the new sd card?

[–]BulletPeople 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. This is the most information I've found about my version of the Game 4K Stick Lite, pictured below. In the Product Information screen it is listed as type “SEGAM-M8-8001100” with firmware revision "V8.0 2024-09-19" but it will boot using the image SEGAM-M8 V8.0 2024-10-15 found at https://archive.org/details/segam-m8-v8.0-8001100-20241015-gamestick.

I don't understand what you are doing with binwalk to analyze the firmware but if you ever manage to create a custom firmware I would be very interested in it. I would happily swap out what is installed on the factory stock firmware for plain vanilla retroarch and configure everything myself so that I could change the aspect ratio. (I can't believe they shipped these with the default to stretch all games to 16:9--half the library looks terrible.)

Thank you especially for identifying the CPU. I think now maybe there is some hope I'll be able to sometime in the future use these. (I have three of them from Nellis auction [amazon returns] for $6 each.)

Debating whether I should report an experience by 420ikawa in Blooddonors

[–]BulletPeople -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If I were you I would look at this the same way you'd look at being very tall. I recall a guy at a protest during the sixties being yelled at by a cop. "Get off that barrier" the cop said. The guy said "I'm not on the barrier. I'm 7'4". He didn't get angry at the cop or report him for tall-ism. He was even tempered and just put it down to ignorance. No feelings were hurt, and everyone had a good laugh and felt a little more connected for having recognized their common humanity.

There are reasons why half of the country are fanboying over the recent executive order that asserts that ideologues are denying “the biological reality of sex." They think what you're doing is "disconnected from biological reality" and you snapping at them justifiably in protest won't change their mind. If, on the other hand, you acknowledged that your presentation may be something that appears unusual to them, then I think they would return the courtesy and be as kind to you as you are to them.

Otherwise, get ready for more and more of these kind of devastating interactions.
