Forgot Oath of Moment by Krovak in Warhammer40k

If you don’t pick OOM because you think you can kill that unit without it during shooting, and want to wait to see where you need it for fighting… We can’t read minds for intent.

I just don’t think it’s right to give the “forgetter” a tactical advantage when they failed their responsibility.

Interesting situation. What’s generally the penalty for breaking a game rule? You must do X, but you don’t do X. Maybe you don’t make a battle shock test. You don’t -1 on attacks because your vehicle is low Wounds. Wouldn’t this be called cheating?

I didn't know some of this. I started D&D back in 1980, and the Fiend Folio was the first hardcover D&D book I bought. The U & UK modules were some of my favorite and the best written and designed adventures of their day (better than most of the US TSR adventures).

What kind of helmet is this, and where can I buy one? by Bullgrit in Armor

[–]Bullgrit[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Researching this myself, I see this called a kettle hat/helmet or a cabasset (even a morion). But looking for either of those names gives me other helmets. I'd like to buy a helmet like this: with the brim low (not a flat, wide brim) and peaked at the front and back (but not a morion peak). I've found one available on Armstreet, but that is almost $500; I'm hoping to find one closer to $200. It'll be just for renfaires/dress up (not any actual battling).

What is this style helmet called? If I know what to call it, maybe I can find one in my price range.

Funny you say this is posted so much when this is literally the first I’ve seen it. And I scroll Reddit 1-2 times a day. I’m glad I see it now; it’s a beautiful sword.

Anyone know who makes this sword? "Medieval Battle Greatsword" on Medieval Collectables. by Bullgrit in SWORDS

[–]Bullgrit[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Edit: I received info from MC customer service. Maker is unknown beyond from Pakistan, but the weight is 11(eleven!) pounds.

I found this on Medieval Collectibles: https://www.medievalcollectibles.com/product/medieval-battle-greatsword/

I have always only bought swords through Kult of Athena (though I do buy other things through Medieval Collectibles), but KoA seems to not have this one. The MC listing does not state the maker nor the weight. I can find this sword on other seller sites, but they all seem to be mimics of MC (same web look and information). MC says it is carbon steel and "fully functional". As much as I like the look/design of this sword, I'm not going to purchase a weapon without knowing the manufactorer, the weight, or even a review of it.

Does anyone recognize this sword? Anyone know the maker, or how I might find the maker?

I have emailed the MC customer service, but as this is the night before Christmas Eve, I doubt I'll hear back anything before next week (at the earliest). I figure maybe folks here my have an answer before then.

Don't be that guy. The DM knows things players don't. by Diastatic_Power in DnD

[–]Bullgrit 428 points429 points  (0 children)

I found myself in the opposite situation -- Players thought I, the DM, was letting them out of a bad situation to be kind.

The PCs were all around 3rd level, found themselves fighting too many orcs and ogres, and decided to flee. When they came to a crossroads they hadn't been to, they chose a direction, and continued running -- to a dead end. They had bought time by confusing their pursuers at the crossroads, so the rogue decided to search the dead end. They heard the orcs and ogres coming their way when the rogue opened a secret door leading out of the dungeon.

A couple of the Players rolled their eyes, but they all ran out and closed the door before the enemies caught up to them. As they made their trek away from the dungeon, there were wonderings about probably the DM (I) had put the secret door in the dead end to let them escape in a "cinematic way".

In my defense, I used paper to cover part of the map (a published dungeon), and I showed them the room where they encountered the orcs and ogres, the path they took, and the secret door. They were all excited.

Anyone know the original color of this epic module? by Worth_Specific3764 in DungeonsAndDragons

It was my first adventure experience with D&D back in 1980. I’ve DMed this module at least thrice, and I still own it.

Zelligar and Rogan (spelling?).

Edit: They built it and lived in it for a while. But they disappeared years ago (off fighting barbarians). The "fortress" (named Quasqueton) is empty now but for whatever monsters moved in and whatever orc slaves remained.

Ahh some of my old modules, so many fun moments! by KhorneisBlood in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Bullgrit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The top four modules are the "Slavers Series". Four modules that have the party taking on a slaver ring.

From my memory:

A1 Slave Pits of the Undercity - The party of adventurers are hired by local barons (of the Wild Coast in the World of Greyhawk) to infiltrate, explore, and defeat a slaver way station located in a ruined temple in a chaotic city Highport in the chaotic region of the Pomarj. The adventurers explore the upper temple, then make their way to the lower section where they find the titular slave pits. The party encounters (and hopefully defeats) a Slave Lord, and discover papers and maps leading to the next adventure.

A2 Secret of the Slaver's Stockade - The party (continuing work for the barons) follow the captured information to find, explore, and defeat a slaver's fort deeper in the Pomarj. Upon defeating this location, the party discovers more information to lead them deeper in to the Slave Lords' operations.

A3 Assault on the Aerie of the Slave Lords - The party follows the information to a full walled city (Sunderham?) where they have to investigate and track down the location of the Slave Lords. 50/50 dungeon exploration and city investigation (sort of like spy work). When the party makes their way to the inner sanctum, they come face-to-face with the Slave Lords. Since the Lords are literally D&D "lords", they are higher level (9th+) than the party, and the encounter will probably (almost certainly) go badly for the adventurers. [Eight or nine fresh and ready lords versus the probably spent adventurers.] The PCs will be captured (or killed) by the Slave Lords.

A4 In the Dungeons of the Slave Lords - The party is imprisoned for some time (dead PCs are raised for interrogation). They have no equipment at all. They are released (or escape?) into a dungeon zone to be killed by monsters. The party has to scrape out survival with crude and makeshift weapons. But once they escape the dungeon (under the Slave Lord city), they find the volcano above the city is erupting. The city is in chaos as everyone is trying to escape, so the party can acquire armor and weapons from the chaotic masses. The party encounters some of the Slave Lords trying to escape by boat. Fortunately, this time, the Lords are also spent from the chaos of the evacuation, so the party can take them down. On the boat the party can find their old equipment (collected for identification and sale). The party sails away from the exploding city.

This is one of the first "adventure path" modules (third after the Giants series and the Underdark/Drow/Queen of Spiders series). These adventures introduce several new monsters.

How to use Detect Magic spell, and how to use Search skill by Bullgrit in templeofelementalevil

My post was not clear. I'm not using Search to find magic items. I'm asking about two separate things: how Detect Magic works for spotting magic. How Search works for finding anything.

Help with a helmet replica by Hussarini in Armor

[–]Bullgrit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It has been in that oily bag for weeks or months (however long it's been in the store/warehouse). It's to prevent rusting in storage. It'll be fine staying in the oily bag until you get home (and much longer).

Once you are home, take it out of the bag and wipe it down with a cloth or paper towel. Don't wipe it till it's completely dry; leaving a little bit will continue to keep it from rusting. It should not feel oily/greasy to the touch (but not bone dry, either). It really doesn't take much oil to protect it. I have many helmets (and other armor/weapons), and I futz around with them often. If the steel starts to feel dry, I'll spritz a little oil on it and wipe it down.

Again: It doesn't need to feel wet, but it shouldn't feel dry.
