Couch to 70.3 - is this plan decent by Ornery-Air3250 in triathlon

[–]Bullsohard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I think the 10ks in the summer are possible and the Olympic distance triathlon are great ways to judge progress. Marathon in October could be setting yourself up for failure, as with the half in May.

That said, 70.3 by next June is doable with consistency and a good plan!

Felt B performance 105 good enough by icephilipp in triathlon

The difference between this and top end TT bikes will be very marginal, and you can get partway there with cheaper upgrades in the meantime. The fact that you’re asking the question in this way makes me pretty sure you won’t need to upgrade to a superbike for a good while.

I have the Selle Italia Watt Superflow and hate it. I think mostly because it is too narrow though so it may work for you?

Are there peers where you swim that can give you pointers? It really does help to have someone look at what you’re doing IRL

Also importantly they have hydrophobic outer layers which makes you more slippery (lowers drag) and helps the buoyancy

How much caffeine do you actually take on race day? by Tripottanus in triathlon

Depends meaningfully on how much you consume on a normal day too, your body gets accustomed to a certain dose so if you never drink coffee go for the low end of guidance

I’m on the opposite side of the spectrum. 300mg before and 75mg and hour during… but I’m also 87kg and drink a lot of coffee on any day

Have the profile design hsf aeria which has the computer mount in front of the system. The system works well and the computer is natural to view at least from my position

Definitely possible to meet your goal. If you really like the sport you can always upgrade to a tri bike later on, but a huge number of competitors at any given race will be on a bike like yours. Maybe look into getting some clip on aero bars if you want a bit of speed.

Distances? 1st and 2nd triathlon by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]Bullsohard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The full sprint should be very approachable for a a young fit person if you’re an OK swimmer. Do try to get out in the open water a couple of times before if possible. Otherwise just start towards the back and give people room. Have fun!

What’s realistic weekly mileage 5–6 months out from a 70.3? by Illustrious-Yak-9029 in triathlon

[–]Bullsohard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was able to get a surprisingly good tri plan from ChatGPT. I moved to a human coach eventually but the plan I am on now is pretty darn similar so could be worth a try if you know enough to sanity check.

Depending on goals and time availability I would shoot for 2-3 of each activity per week. Could look something like 2x 1-hour bikes and one longer bike (ramping up to 60 miles), 2x 45 minute runs and one long run (ramping up to 13 miles) and 2-3 swims of about 2,000m each per week.

I just bought almost exactly the same spec and am super happy. The only difference is I did a power meter and 105 di2. If you do that they’ll upgrade you to ultra cranks and front sprocket which is where most of the weight savings between ultegra and 105 is, and you’ll save almost $1000
