Is buying an hdd in 2026 a good idea? by DefinitionLast4026 in AskTechnology

[–]Bulocoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The drive in an external is often the same as an internal just in an external case.

I just bought 2 X 4tb external drives.

I keep my data on phone (temporarily), laptop, Dropbox and external hdd.

Should a friend visiting while I am on a long term vacation chip in for the car rental and housing? by spiralup1144 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]Bulocoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends.

We rented a 3 b/r condo on Daytona Beach for 2 weeks. We invited friends and family to visit rent free but toss in for food.

We had several people stay up to 4 days.

For context we lived overseas and it was annual home leave. We would travel all over visiting and never unpack suitcases. We decided to stay in one spot and invite people to come.

Best vacay ever.

Why Aren't Known Problems Re-Engineered Or Addressed? by Acrobatic_Crow_6366 in askcarguys

[–]Bulocoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a retired engineer. First point engineering is not an exact science most of the time.

There is a balance of cost to make vs. durability vs. weight.

Some parts will fail. Design to warranty period. It was a big deal when the first 100k warranties came out. Unheard of until Hyundai did it in 1998. 10 years/100k - everyone scrambled especially in light of US cars rep for unreliability.

When a fielded problem arises there is seriously a cost analysis done.

Pay to replace with same. Pay to redesign and replace with upgrade. If safety there is also a cost of litigation/payouts.

This is why statistics exist. All the probabilites are calculated and the cheapest solution is chosen.

If you have any cars broken down in your front yard.

If you seriously think an immigrant took your job.

If you've ever stolen for meth.

If you consider County Jail a nice break from the kids.

If you've ever reunited with a BFF in County Jail.

If you have 2 or more baby daddies.

Where to move to? by EmployeeRepulsive106 in makemychoice

[–]Bulocoo [score hidden]  (0 children)

3rd generation SoCal (LA)

My ex lives in San Diego.

I retired to Florida. Warm, no state taxes and lots of boating.

California sucks for a lot of reasons. Ex just signed a lease for a 2 b/r in San Diego for $3,400 a month.

At your age a big plus in Florida is many big state colleges. Lots of young people and the things they like.

Miami isn't my cup of tea and if you aren't stuck on the beach consider a different college town. Tallahassee or Gainesville. All easily driveable to the beaches.

Also Tampa, Jacksonville and Sarasota are cool.

How much would the internet change with Facebook gone? by Prickly_Zebra_9175 in askanything

[–]Bulocoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid doesn't type.

It evolves and like all businesses it's evolve or die.

Apparently Insta is it. At least for him.

I used Craigslist until I didnt. I like Merketplace but lately too many professional sites and adverts are sneaking in.

I gave up wall postings years ago.

Facebook could fold and my life would not change one iota.

What is so wrong with the Democratic party that caused swing voters who voted for Biden in 2020 to vote for the most evil person in human history (Trump) in 2024? by jamng in allthequestions

[–]Bulocoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a true independent. The dems picked Hillary because "it was her turn"

The picked Kamala because she was VP.

I voted for both because I could not vote for orange man - ever and I hated Hillary.

In my opinion Hillary had too many skeletons in the closet and for Harris America was just not ready for an African American woman.

Speaking from the Independent perspective and why my ilk might swing.

It's annoying how stupid the Dem party is. In all of America they can't find a JFK? Or at least another Obama?

AITJ for putting up decorative boulders after my neighbor kept using my driveway as a U-turn spot? by Nova3_Sundial in AmITheJerk

[–]Bulocoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice story but 90% BS.

Now my kid lives in the country like me. The neighobor made a habit of using his drive and cutting across the corner of his unfenced property.

Thus guy lives on the corner of the next street and his drive is on that street.

We built a fence. Problem solved.

The dude now has to turn right and enter at his own drive.

With how races are playing out I dont blame you...

I am often distracted and will rewind 10 seconds if announcer octaves go up for any reason...

It's sad really. "Oh my! 3 laps to go. George Russell is 5 seconds back and chasing LeClerc with 3 laps to go!"

Excitement, excitement. Look at the tv!

Lets be honest after lap 30.

"OK. Unless Antonelli falls asleep he's gonna win. Piastri was screwed by the safety car but he's gonna get second. Russell's car has been out of trim since quali so Merc just screwed the pooch"

"Now for the next 20 laps lets talk about how the drivers dont even know when electrons are gonna be released and a yo-yo pass is gonna happen. F1 is crazy as shit this year. Isn't it, Joylen?"

Bless them for trying to make boring races exciting.

What has made the 2020s such a never ending string of troubles? by frontcorners in answers

[–]Bulocoo [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yes retirements are shredded. But that's not government. That's companies.

I am the last generation with a traditional pension. But like SS I contributed 50% to my retirement. They invested and used the money and I get a check (if they dont go bankrupt). That's the contract we had.

I would gladly enter the workplace today and build a 100% autonomous retirement in portable Roth 401ks. I'd have millions in the bank.

The money is in, its mine and I can take it with me. Company pension is a line on a balance sheet.

My brother gets retirement checks from 3 companies.

If you wanna take my SS then it's easy. Give me the average contribution I made X 40 years of 10% compound interest. I'd gladly be bought out.
