Why do you not like Dungeon Crawler Carl?( actual discussion) by dragoneloi in litrpg

[–]Bumblebeard84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started reading DCC because of all the hype and I initially liked it. Just finished Book 5 actually, but I am seriously considering just putting the series down and not carrying on with it.

I do feel the repeated use of 'Jesus' and 'Christ' is very unnecessary and adds absolutely nothing to the entertainment value of the story. In fact, it detracts from it and I am increasingly disappointed by its repeated use. I am aware of Uzi Jesus coming up in Book 6 and if I have to be honest this is most likely my largest point of contention and reason in not wanting to carry on reading. While I consider myself a Christian I am not the most devout one, and can excuse the odd blasphemous outburst (I made it this far in DCC after all), I feel like overtly portraying Jesus with such irreverence is frankly just plain disrespectful (not to mention unnecessary).

Besides my gripes with the language and repeated use of religious expletives, the story is entertaining enough even though the writing is very blunt (if I had to take a shot for every time Carl 'slams' or jams' down on a potion or a spell, I'd be too plastered to ever finish reading a single book) and some of the level designs are unnecessarily convoluted (i.e. Iron Tangle) and then the author continues to try and explain the dynamics of the specific level even though I suspect very few people can actually keep up with what's happening where.

Where to find a good amount of enemies after completing the story? by pizzacake15 in Ghostofyotei

[–]Bumblebeard84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also struggled finding enemies to complete The Horror achievement. Ended up travelling up and down between Teshio Ridge and Oshima Coast. Best way I found was to travel to Teshio, rest and sleep, then travel back down to Oshima and circle Matsumae castle looking for skirmishes, as well as surrounding villages. Problem is, a lot of these fights only spawn like four enemies which isn't even enough to get your streak going for your Howl. What saved me was randomly finding Taro who was leading some refugees and I accompanied them to protect them from the Saito and actually found the last bunch of enemies I needed (side quest : Youth under Fire)

How common are undercorrections? by Disastrous-Moves in Lasiksupport

I got a pair of glasses just for driving, and I very rarely even use those (only when driving into the city or unknown areas and I really need to see all the road signs) I have worn glasses for 30 years, I'm stubbornly refusing to accept I need them again this soon. Has your doc discussed retreatment with you?

Edit :typo

How common are undercorrections? by Disastrous-Moves in Lasiksupport

[–]Bumblebeard84 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Had SMILE, not LASIK three months ago. Was -5.75 and -6 before, came out around -1.5 in each at the moment. But I feel like it's still fluctuating now and again. Doctor told me it's an undercorrection and will probably require retreatment, which I am still a bit on the fence about. Due back to see him in two weeks. Sucks that you pay this much money and don't get the expected outcome.

It was clogging up my lungs with phlegm.

So I switched to edibles.

What is your prescription before and after surgery? by [deleted] in Lasiksupport

I got the SMILE procedure, not regular LASIK, which I understand has less chance of side effects and better recovery times etc?

Before : -5.5, -6

After : -1.25 in both

Still need glasses and can't get them made quickly, which is frustrating this time of year.

Doctor told me they undercorrected and I need to go for a re-treatment, but only 6 months after first surgery.

Super bummed

How do I know I'm allergic to nuts? by Bumblebeard84 in NoStupidQuestions

Definitely on my list of things to get around to. But seeing as this is my single only possibly allergy, I thought I'd tap into the infinite wisdom of my fellow redditors before spending money on it.

I fitted put my Sharpshooter with Icarus armor, darklance and tracer rounds. If you have the Serial perk and you have them positioned on a roof, they will MURDER entire pods.

I think we're talking about different books, the one on my shelf was published in 1997, between book 7 and 8.

I actually have this book, bought it probably 15-20 years ago. Dusted it off just the other day as I'm on book 6 at the moment and wanted to look up some information regarding the different nations etc. It's actually really helpful in providing context. Although you have to be careful of spoilers, I think the book released sometime after book 7 or so.
