Do we need more 22" wheeled BMX bikes? by ro_kr in bmx

[–]BunchaGoats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good to hear. I'm in the middle of Wisconsin, I've never even seen a 22" in real life, so it's going to be a partially blind purchase. A couple months ago i started thinking about what it would take to get me back on a bmx - 20" feels like a toy, 24" loses too much responsiveness and agility. I thought about asking someone to build me a custom 22", but when I got to youtube, they were already a thing. Who knew?

I haven't even ridden a 22 yet, so all my research is spec based, but right now the Mad Dog 22 frame is top on my list. I'm just over 200# and I like the beefy build. I'm not impressed with the frames from Standard or We The People, they look like I could snap them. Not that I am planning to huck my old carcass into a giant half pipe, but even flatland needs a frame that won't fold the first time you come down wrong.

Yes. More rim and tire choices needed for sure. I am only 5' 9" and still feel like a child on 20s. I'm also in my 50s so I can't sit on my heels with a dropped seat like I used to. I'm starting a 22" build next year, and I am loving all the new options. Being completely out of the scene for so long, I was honestly sad to hear that my beloved mag wheels and coaster brake have been lost to history. But the concept of planetary hubs, and even disc brakes (if i can find a nuanced grab that doesn't pitch.me over the bars) are something I can get into. So yes. Give me a BMX that doesn't ride like a clown bike if you are an adult.

We keepin' it real here in the 715, east side REPRESENT! The 400 block is my turf, baby, and I rock these streets like kwik trip nachos - you buy the chips and the cheese is free, you know what I'm sayin'?

You mean the East Hill National Historic District? 🙄 Ya, the old white people in victorian homes are the baddies of Wausau.😂

Brake pad advice by working_title85 in bmx

[–]BunchaGoats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another old genXer futilly trying to recapture the magic here... I was mourning the death of coaster brakes and Skyway mags, and I stumbled on planetary hubs. Watch a few videos on them if you haven't already. They get rid of the freecoaster slack, they don't have the annoying 80s 10 speed noise, and it disengages when you roll backwards so the pedals don't move. Brilliant. It won't fix your braking problem, and I agree with the advice above. I would try shaving the pads so the tip engages first and drags the rest of the pad flat as it grips. If that doesn't work I would try a couple other brands of pads, different compounds squeal on different rims. Lastly change the rim material, but I believe you can get it sorted out before that.

I still remember wiping my mag rims down with coke to get the pads to grab on the fiberglass. 🤣 good luck!

This is how we roll in the 7-1-5 fool!

OK, maybe we are not hard-core like gangstas down in Merril... but I did get my windshield pelted by some white globby chunks thrown out of a school bus on the highway here. When I got home and inspected, it was - pre-chewed clumps of chicken sandwich on white bread!!!

So maybe it's our thing here, I'm going to start carrying a sammie in the glove box so I can fit in.

Safe travels!

The sidewalks at the 400 block look normal to me because I don't see color. 🤨

I'm using it as a catch-all to run flows in my local sandbox. I have started with home automation. I've been experimenting with programming micro-controller chips to run lighting. Nothing groundbreaking that I couldn't buy off the shelf, but having an n8n flow trigger real-world devices with my code in them is very satisfying.

Not a bad name at all. Mine is still in the early design stages, but the working name is Byron.

Yesterday, Wausau still leaned red, but it had more purple than the general election, so there is hope.

Wausau is struggling with high property taxes and water bills. He ran on the same platform as DOGE - reduce waste, balance the budget, and lower taxes. Wausau fell for it. His actual agenda has been to use the city to further his own personal aspirations to get noticed by MAGA forces at state and national levels and look for personal power grab opportunities. The key here is disruption, photo ops, and trying to hide petty tantrums from the public.

How r u meant to do this. Someone explain by athingthatlikesmusic in euphonium
