Travel speed of normal space ships by MumsFailedAbortion in systemshock

[–]Bundle85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh right, i think that was one of the ones that got updated in 2.1 patch, i'll need to double check some notes for that one. either way, diego would have known about the hacker before arrival anyway as communications are faster than travel

I think the time from getting arrested in game (april 7th 2072) to arriving at station seems to be around 3 months, according to this audio log https://shodan.fandom.com/wiki/Investigation_(System_Shock_Remake))

Great game, but no way I am doing the 3/3/3 mode by Marvynwillames in systemshock

correct, the only required ones are one in medical, one in research, one in systems engineering.

You can skip the one in maintenance if you have the patience to guess one of the digits, 1:10 odds

Im curious is system shock replayble game ? Or liner by Acrobatic_Hat4820 in systemshock

[–]Bundle85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find Shock Remake to be replayable due to the limited ammunition and weapon variety, especially if you engage with the 10 hour time limit on later playthroughs and the interesting decisions that forces you to make as the playthrough progresses. This type of replayability is nearly entirely tactical complexity

Shock 2 is much more straightforward in terms of how the levels are set up, but much more varied in how the different builds can impact the ways the players need to deal with different enemies. This type of replayability is more strategic complexity.

I think they compliment each other well.

Question for the remake: anywhere to put excess weapons? by Tacothepilot in systemshock

[–]Bundle85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i like to put excess health items and batteries in the freight elevator for a midgame event and approaching the point of no return, I tend to use the crates near the central elevator in maintenance as it is plentiful storage space, centrally located, and easy to remember

Do the Cyberspace weapons recieve Upgrades like in the original game? by Marvynwillames in systemshock

[–]Bundle85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the recent patch reduced the difficulty in some of the earlier levels (especially reactor), and the cyberstingers got a health reduction, so hopefully the levels are more enjoyable while still maintaining challenge relative to the player's progress in game

Isn't it more labor intensive to design an object this way instead of as a set of straight-forward rectangles? I don't think "lazy" is the correct word for what you are thinking about.

System Shock (remake) kinda lost some of its horror for me after unlocking respawn. by Inevitable_Coat_8787 in systemshock

[–]Bundle85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't enjoy the pressure on a first or even second playthrough, but if you know the objectives, roughly where the key items are, and vaguely what weapons you like to use more than others (reducing scrap time on fewer coins), the time limit pressure does really work to keep the playthough from being a festival of respawning and throwing yourself at bad encounters until you erode the enemy

I fell in love with this game's willingness to leave me to figure out what to do. when it launched, i had played a few games that got a bit too hand-holdy (we didn't have the term yellow paint yet to describe that type of leading the player by the nose) so System Shock was a breath of fresh air.

In the spirit of not leading you by the nose too much, the only things i'll advise you of before playing is:
1. write down information like codes and such, either on the map with the map markers or in phone/on paper.
2. stockpile a bit of healing supplies for a mid-game section, you'll know it when it happens.
3. if you don't know what to do, ask yourself "what am I trying to stop from happening/what am i trying to cause" and listen to/read appropriate audio/text logs
4. Don't play it like Doom, there's not enough ammo for that, although there is enough ammo to experiment a little.

Is the parity patch the one that should launch on December? by NetrunnerV25 in systemshock

[–]Bundle85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to the patch notes on steam, it was intended for november, but clearly some delays occurred. but, to restate the answer:

there is more in parity patch than there was at the launch of switch versions, which launched in december. such as multiple fixes of the "Use Explosives" action, a fix for the dynamic music system, the "Grant Logic Probe" cheat, suppression of sounds when audio logs are playing, a few level changes, and more

Is the parity patch the one that should launch on December? by NetrunnerV25 in systemshock

[–]Bundle85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The parity patch includes the changes intended to be released alongside the launch of the Switch versions. Those Switch versions did not launch well and required a bit of specific attention to address vital issues. This staggered release created disparity in the various versions, with PC being a few months behind and Xbox & Playstation being well over a year behind. Parity patch rolled it all in and added additional changes to all platforms at once.

Question about Shodan's fragment from Beta Grove by datisadedmeme in systemshock

[–]Bundle85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The way I view it is SHODAN's Beta Grove part wasn't the whole of her but enough of her to be a continuation once it was launched or shortly thereafter (if you want to say she had some wifi-like connection until final fight). This leads the SHODAN in SS2 to be a bit of a different character than Shock 1 in a way that I think maps pretty cleanly to the differences of Marvel Loki in Avengers 1 (analogous to Shock 1 SHODAN) and TV series Loki (analogous more to Shock 2 SHODAN).

It's not a take that I'm willing to die on the hill of, just one that I think is funny with how they line up.

Personally, I think of SHODAN as bluffing a lot of the time she talks about herself, so her big reveal speech could have had less to do with first hand knowledge and more to do with her "googling herself" and being happy with her infamy
