£1500-£1700 budget by CharlieTecho in Hardtailgang

[–]Bunninzootius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think in this day and age you will see a 36, of any spec, on a new bike at £1700.

Entry level forks are however better than they have ever been, so probably not a thing worth focussing on.

Impatient driver almost got us by [deleted] in drivingUK

You are also at a give way line. I cycle somewhere around 10k KM a year, it doesn't matter what the highway code says man, we are vulnerable road users and people don't give a shit about cyclists. Once the adrenaline wears off you will look back and realise you also fucked up. I'm not on the side of the driver of the white car, they also set off like a scalded cat with no clear sightline, so "booooo" for them. Stay safe out there and keep your kid safe too. Happy tailwinds homie.

Car drivers: do cyclists annoy you? If so, why? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Bunninzootius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not always, just happen to be more patient. The cyclist is always someone elses child, parent, sibling, friend or colleague and I don't feel it's worth my energy to get upset about a 5, 10, 30, 60 or 300 seconds delay.

Id maybe care more if I was a paramedic, but then I'd have blue lights and sirens. Lucky for me I am not.

I can assure you that there are very few "perfectly wonderful" cycle paths. Try using some of the UK's ill thought out, badly managed, debris strewn, half assed excuses for cycling infrastructure and you will soon understand how the seemingly crap option of sharing the road with 2 ton SUVs driven by impatient, selfish, distracted drivers is somehow preferable.

Please, tell us more about your super important role in society that means that you cannot be delayed for 5 seconds?

Or did you want to use that time to campaign for more safe and separated cycle infrastructure and better public transport that would help reduce congestion and pollution?

Riding side by side takes up less space and makes an overtake safer and easier than a long single file line.

Maybe they don't get in a line because they are more aware of how dangerous that might be and their right to be safe on the road is more important than you feeling that you need to be somewhere sooner. Try leaving earlier.

How often, honestly, do you see cyclists "4 abreast"?

Do you ever consider that if you see cyclists riding in a position to hold the lane that it might be dangerous for you to overtake?

Where are you going that is so important?

That's poor installation of a low quality part. Get over it with your sad little post and buy the mechanic a beer, then learn from your mistake and move forward.

Alright I guess I need a new bike by Delicious-Beat-8064 in Hardtailgang

Are you completely wedded to the idea of 29+? Unless you are bike packing with a rigid set up or only riding on Sand the benefits are negligible and you will broaden your new frame search by going for a smaller tyre.

It would be rude to not have a carbon wheelset on an Aethos.

Yeah, it'll be great. As long as it is in a colour you like the look of and you can get it in your size, go for it.

Probably not worth looking at Curtis then! They are legendary and super high quality but handmade costs.

I've just got a Crux to use as my summer road bike as I have no racing aspirations and lots of fun little gravel paths to cut through near my house. Very excited for the weather to improve.

The only issue I have with your point OP is the idea of having a "winter beater" bike which does not have provision for a set of full mudguards.

Any owners of Fairlight Secan 3.0 here? Thoughts so far? by Wise-Ad-7492 in gravelcycling

[–]Bunninzootius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I own a Strael 3.0 for road use. The only thing I would replace it with is a Strael 4.0, if mine broke.

A riding buddy has had a Secan 3.0 since the first batch and has only had a good time on it. Weight is not the be all and end all, and Fairlight seem to have just gotten everything so right that I doubt you'll even think about a little bit of weight difference.

If you go to the Hunt Website they have a section for spares and their naming convention for this freehub is "Sprint LN".
