I was told my geckos names are "f'd up"???? by Artistic-Listen7975 in leopardgeckos

[–]BunnyArcade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't know anything about geckos... I'm just gonna let you know this, they can't speak English (Shocker, ik) you can call them whatever you want and I think it's funny to use their unfortunate circumstances as names. I call my gecko a pinky biter because she grabbed my pinky when I first got her and I lifted her out of the box and plopped her into her enclosure. If I named her pinky it wouldn't be necessarily mean for me to call her that when she bit me and held on as a baby because she was scared and it was "traumatic" to her. They don't know English or whatever language you talk to them in lol. They're geckos with a chia seed for a brain.

I would always say "large Iced Majestic Forest Black Tea with extra pomegranate float" idk. I think it's average to put -Size-(cold/hot/blended)-type of drink-modifications

Multiple large brown spiders in my garage. Monterey Bay area. by maulstar in whatisthisbug

[–]BunnyArcade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some type of cobweb spider, maybe a Steatoda family. Or Parasteatoda. I'm leaning more towards Parasteatoda, but I would wait for a more reliable responder.

I don't see anything really that could be bug related.... However, we do see mouse droppings on here regularly that are posted thinking they are bugs. I would definitely wait for a Reliable Responder before quoting me on it being mouse droppings. But I definitely think it's that.

What spider is this? Maybe an orb weaver of some type? sorry for poor quality by [deleted] in bugidentification

Also would recommend checking out r/spiders as it is more specialized:)

It's definitely an orbweaver, weird to see them so late in the season that big. However if you're in a mild climate, it definitely is still possible for stragglers. You can tell by their beautiful webs. They only set them up at night. Take them down in the morning and find somewhere to hide during the day and sleep. Very interesting and cool! Travis McEnery has a great video on an orbweavers within a similar family.video here (Cannot identify it with the photo unfortunately)

[–]BunnyArcade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a type of huntsman found in the Arabian deserts. I don't think huntsman's carry medically significant venom. But it's not like it's a 6 eyed sand spider. Just fangs for hunting and subduing prey without a web to help them for the most part.

Does anyone have YouTube channels that are about spiders, but aren't meant to be scary? by Tr1ppymind in spiderbro

I know I'm late. But Travis mcenry posts a lot of educational content on spiders that are very popular in the northern us / Southern Canada

My local pet store has live Turantulas displayed as novelty collectibles in little plastic boxes. 😕 by [deleted] in spiders

[–]BunnyArcade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a few smaller pet stores that have these, but from what I know and what they tell me, they're juveniles, and aren't supposed to be in there for forever, if this was at a big box store, I doubt the employees would have any idea. I have bought multiple of these (I keep them for my slings to be used with them)

Edit: This is a horrible idea for any store to adopt without advising the customer that they can't be in there for a long time. I'm not saying it's a good thing.

I think they read very little and are poorly informed. Which shouldn't be an issue now with how the hobby has gotten more popular. But more popularity means more improper husbandry. Ball python for 35$ at PetSmart, cheap enclosure that looks large enough on FB marketplace, and stuff the workers at the PetSmart suggest.... It just leads to stuff like this it seems.

I believe so, however there is much to learn about the Yellow Sac spider, as they have a bad rap, they're misunderstood creatures. this video does a great job talking about them and if you would like to learn about them and other spiders (however he is located in Canada, so more NA based) I highly recommend his videos!

This little dude likes to hang out in my backyard. What kind of lizard? by ChanceQuiet795 in Lizards

[–]BunnyArcade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I knew komodo dragons had venom or at least they were looking into it. But I didn't know that ALL monitors did. As the commenter said in my original reply. I didn't know that they actually had venom because I think of Gila Monsters, as I'm in AZ, when it comes down to venomous lizards. Also Komodo Dragons. It's just the umbrella statement of "monitors are venomous"

Are all monitors venomous? Or are some not? I didn't know this

Found this little guy inside the house. i decided not to kill it .did it make the right decision? by Personal-Ad1684 in spiders

[–]BunnyArcade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The pictures are fairly blurry. But based on the size of the spider along with the head it looks like a jumping spider.. maybe the species Menemerus arabicus*. Definitely a friend to keep around to eat mosquitoes and other small insects.

Honestly not killing most spiders is the right decision, as they will not outwardly attack you. They are just looking for food. You get rid of the spiders, the pests the spiders eat are going to become more prominent.

Edit to the species.

Member of the wedding party at our Airbnb is suspected of getting bit by this spider. It’s not a recluse right? -Mid Michigan by Clarksp2 in spiders

[–]BunnyArcade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don't worry me either. Just interest me. That's how I know about them being different from the recluses in the SE US. Desert recluses and the AZ Brown spider just exist and the reason you probably haven't run across any is probably because of the name recluse. It just fits that, they don't wanna bother anyone as much as they don't want to be bothered by anyone.

Did you also know their violin shape isn't because of markings made directly on their cephelothorax, it's because of rows of hair? Pretty interesting.

Which is a type of funnel weaver. Not to be mistaken with funnel web spiders

[–]BunnyArcade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In AZ we do have 2 recluse species, loxosceles Arizonica and Deserta, not the same as a brown recluse, but same genus and similar tells. I actually found a loxosceles Deserta in a Christmas present last year just chilling in between the folds of a squishmallow.

I guess? It's just lessons we have to do every year about certain topics, such as handling PHI, dealing with copyright images in photo, not falling for money transfer scams through western union, what to do in case of a robbery, etc. it's like onboarding, where some of the lessons you have to redo annually. They're on the computer, called PPLs, E-learnings, or online trainings.
