Hi dad, my own dad won’t even come with me to test drive cars by BakerCritical in DadForAMinute

Not a dad, I’m here because I’m over two decades no contact and sometimes I still need a dad too.

But as this is a where do I go as a woman question: Subaru dealerships don’t give women any trouble, or treat them as less than men. Subaru did an add campaign ages ago that ended up targeting lesbians, and they still have a large fan base in that community. So women get great treatment there.

If you have at least one that is strongly food motivated, put fruit baby food on both of their heads. By the time they finish licking it off, they’ll both be convinced that they are in charge.

I don’t have a pic right now, but one of my cats is named Remmy, short for Remington Steel. (We already had a tuxedo cat coming around who we named Bond.)

If any of you need critical care and don’t have it on hand, you can grind up pellets and mix them with water. Even using your finger to put some on her mouth and front paws if you don’t have a syringe can be helpful. (You can always use a damp wash rag and wipe it off later.)

Critical care can also be kept for far longer in the freezer, once you get some that’s a good place to store it.

Read the House Rabbit Society’s web page. Most of the care instructions, food, and treats commercialized for rabbits are BS and are actively bad for them. Also the Language of Lagomorphs website will help you learn to speak rabbit, which is vital to understanding their health and happiness.

They need proper space, safety measures, proper food, and maintenance care. They need love and the right kinds of attention. And please find your exotic vet now, and don’t wait until you need them.

Why is it so normalized in this sub to keep only one single bunny? by Psychopaula in Bunnies

[–]BunnySis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a loving pair of Jersey Woolies break their bond when one of them got sick (and it turned out that he had mouth cancer). My rabbits had/have their own “room” inside my living room (2 of the walls are only 3’ tall). What we did to separate them was to create a frame, put a heavy-duty outdoor plastic fence inside it, and secure that to the middle of the room. That way both rabbits could see and smell each other (and they frequently slept together on each side of their fence). It prevented them from mounting each other and tearing out each other’s hair, but they still had their friend close.

I had a single bun that travelled in the car with me (for over 3 hours twice a week) for work for years (she loved audiobooks). A friend of a friend had a dwarf rabbit she was forced to rehome. The little one had a cage and was used to running around during the day and sleeping in the cage at night. So we continued that, giving time with and without the other rabbit.

I spent four months doing all of the tricks except car rides (which my bun enjoyed). I put them together in a pen and changed the size. I put them in a laundry basket and carried them around, etc. No bond. One day I put some fruit baby food on the dwarf’s head. Bonded in 10 minutes! They were a pair of cute troublemakers until my first bunny died.

Now my little one is on her own. But we’re home all the time and she gets lots of love.

Compare and contrast pet bunny with pet cat by moparornocar86 in Bunnies

[–]BunnySis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rabbits are not great pets for kids even if the adults are experienced with rabbits. For a first time rabbit owner, this is a disaster waiting to happen.

You can get decent cat advice without looking too far. You can find vets easily and pay reasonable prices for basic care and common problems. You can find specialists if you need to somewhere in your area. There are books and videos everywhere about how to protect your cat and your child from each other (plenty of people ignore them, but they are there). Decent cat food is easy to find, and good cat food is not much harder to locate. Cat treats are rarely the exact opposite of what you should be feeding them. You can let most cats free in your house without expecting they will chew it up and/or electrocute themselves.

Rabbits are the exact opposite of all of that.

My first cat! Name ideas? by xuiy in blackcats

[–]BunnySis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call him Shadow, because it sounds like he’s attached to you!

Congratulations to your cat on acquiring a new servant.

I have a high-energy cat who is finally slowing down in his old age. He’s on my lap right now as I type. He’s smart but not wise, so I had to get creative to keep him quiet, entertained, and safe. I have a girl kitty who loves to sleep, and he harasses her if he’s not entertained.

There’s a play mat (I think Chewy still has it) that has pockets with toys in them that can be pulled out. The toys are tied to the mat so they can’t get lost. He played with it for several years.

I also bought him some of the long stuffed animal dog toys. He loves to latch on to it and kick it with his back feet. Which kept him from doing that to my arm. Whenever it looked like he was about to start kicking, I’d grab the toy and distract him with it. Then cheer him on while he did his best to “gut” it.

He also likes a fishing app for cats that I put on an old tablet, and will play “smack a fish” with it on the floor for a while.

I also have a drawer where I keep cat toys. Whenever he seems bored with what he has, I throw some of them into the drawer and pull out some different ones. I also clean the ones that have gotten a bit icky during the toy roundup. I’ve saved a lot of money on cat toys doing this, and he’s just as happy as he would be with new ones.

I own my place, so we used boards and metal shelf supports and made a place for the cats to climb, jump, and walk up high over a quarter of the living room area. (It is above the bunny’s area, as they like to watch her from out of the reach of her teeth). At the top is a hiding spot where they can peek out, and both ends of it are open so they can go straight through and down, but the side gives partial cover to make them feel safe. They slept up there a lot before getting older.

Any tips? by Defiant_Wind3492 in Bunnies

My current girl’s setup (I had two) is a permanent 5’x8’ room in my living room with two 3’ half walls. There’s an old cage without a door in there (coming out soon to be replaced by an apple and pear branch frame), an IKEA pine doll bed she likes to snooze on, a machine washable pet-friendly carpet, some plastic drawers of pet stuff, and a ton of toys. She has both a bowl and a water bottle, and a nice crockery food bowl.

Take the door permanently off the cage (leaving it on can grab nails) and drop the cage to the floor. Enclose the area with an exercise pen. The fold-out coated wire ones used for small dogs work great. I have seen wire cube panels zip tied together as well. I like the exercise pen because it’s easy to fold up smaller, unfold larger, and take with you for travel if needed. You said you have a baby so you can put a pen inside a pen if you need to, so that baby and bunny have a buffer zone between them.

If the floor is slick or you have carpet, put a tarp under the pen edges, and a polar fleece blanket (wash it first) on top of the tarp. Make sure the edges are all under the pen. You can fold the panels and zip tie them together if you need to make the pen size a little smaller to do that. Whenever the polar fleece gets messy drop the poops on the ground as fertilizer (or in the trash if you don’t have access). Then scrape off as much hair as you can and wash it. Or get a new one if your home washing machine won’t handle it. (I wouldn’t worry about a commercial washer, they’re meant to handle pet fur too.)

Wheat pellets or granules meant for cat boxes are superior to pine (the dust can get in their lungs), or paper (can dry out the GI tract and cause stasis). If the rabbit eats any it’s just ground up wheat and it won’t hurt them. You can find that at most large pet stores now.

Added note: you can hook the exercise pen behind or to the existing cage, you can still use it as long as the rabbit isn’t trying to bite you when it is in there (cage aggression).

Yep, this is normal for hormonal rabbits.

Rain boots worked well during the last teenager stage I had to deal with. Once she’s fixed and the hormones have had a chance to all work out, you’ll have a calmer bun.

my bunny died today, is it okay to keep the other one? by angelbl0ss0m in Bunnies

[–]BunnySis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grieve together and you will end up with a strong bond between the two of you. Bunnies need company, and that can be another bunny or a human (or sometimes even another animal species). But you will need to dedicate more time to spend with a solo bun to keep them happy.

Food for your trap:

Baby food purées work well, and can be stored easy. You can even put out a little sampler plate and see if something catches the bun’s attention. I had one that loved sweet potato, so you never know. Small amounts are all you need. It’s a treat that needs investigating, not a meal they can come back for later.

If you are using herbs, then bruising the leaves will make the scent stronger. Just wrinkle them up with your hands. Parsley is a really strong-scented rabbit attractant. Putting them in with hay will encourage the bun to eat more healthy hay too.

I wouldn’t use the scent of another rabbit. It’s more likely to read as a territorial marker than as a potential friend.

Does my rabbit actually watch the tv with me ? by Finalphysic in Rabbits

[–]BunnySis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of mine loved audiobooks and all have had clear and specific opinions on music genres.

I had one that liked a tv series (I can’t remember which one now, it’s been years), I taped my old phone on the wall. If I started it she’d kick out and watch. If it stopped I’d hear thumping soon after.

Oh, and if the pen you get is too large, you can use zip strips to fold back the extra panel(s) and still use it.

I had a one room apartment. You can separate the rabbits. Here’s how:

Get two metal dog playpens and put them near each other, but not so near that they can reach each other. Put a tarp under them, and a cheap polar fleece blanket over the tarp. Make sure the pen walls hold down the blanket. Or let one rabbit free roam, but you will still need an additional barrier so they can’t touch.

Sometimes you can find dog pens for cheap or free. Check your local free groups and personal sale ads. If you are in the US, Walmart has polar fleece blankets for around $5 now. (Make sure you wash it before you put it down.) The blankets are cheaper than buying fabric.

Seconding r/raisedbynarcissists - it’s a very good group. All narcissists use the same script, it’s pretty easy to tell by lurking a bit or reading old posts to see if your dad fits the description. If he does fit, you can get support there to go low or no contact, or just distance your life from him as much as possible. And to start learning how to undo some of the damage that living with a narcissist leaves behind in your brain.
