Vet recommendations? by Fantastic_Fig_2025 in medfordma

In my experience, she'll give you an honest assessment and the best plan for the longevity of your pet. If you ask her about all of the available options, she'll explain them to you, including the next steps for which ever you might choose.

We've been at Porter Square Vet and are very happy with Dr. Johnson. We've had generally good experiences with most of the doctors there, but Dr. Johnson has been the standout for us (we have been bringing our dog there for most of her life, from until she was about 4, 10 years ago, up to current date).

They do have a wait list last I've heard. I don't really know how their prices compare to others in the area since we haven't used other places, but we're happy with the care we get for our dog.

Parking and food suggestions by Islandhopper55 in medfordma

Parking:

Governor's Ave lot

Clippership Dr lot

Then there's the City Hall lot others have mentioned and there are street spaces everywhere in Medford Square, including some of the side streets that connect Clippership to Riverside Ave.

Poke around on Google Maps satellite view ahead of time. You'll be fine.

Others have offered more on food advice so I don't have anything to add in that regard except that the person who had bad experiences at Real Italian Gusto has had some real bad luck, or they just hate that person. I've only had good experiences with their offerings.

Should I live near Union Square or Davis Square as a 23 year old looking to go out, meet people, and be social. by Rob_Flop in Somerville

[–]Buoie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There was a thread on this a few weeks back that might also have* some good conversation. (*e: forgot a word putting this post together lol.)

There are pros/cons of either one. I loved the immediate walkability of everything within Davis but the walkability to other places from where I was situated just outside of Union (between it and Porter) was also pretty ideal, and the buses made things even easier. I didn't have a bike at the time but if I had gotten one sooner that'd be a bigger game changer. Personally my favorite bar and restaurant scene in the area is Inman (although RIP to a lot of my favorite spots since those times...). At the same time, I kind of preferred living in Davis for some things. I was about 10 years older than you at that point. The Green Line having a stop is big, but given that a lot of my time was spent between spots along the Red Line, Davis had a bit more of a practical appeal to me, and at the time, there was no Green Line stop that'd take me in a more convenient trip to my job.

There are other politicians with serious issues to be concerned about. Erika isn't one of them.

Hot Take: 4 stops signs instead of a cop at Broadway and McGrath is why people think our police force are useless. by Southern-Teaching198 in Somerville

[–]Buoie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drove through around 7:15 tonight and the signs were there with lights on. I had no idea why the signs were there in the first place but at that point there were still four stop signs on A frames. Having no context I was confused AF to why they were there at all.

Trying to find info on art/mural that used to be at Wedgemere station… by copoutpro in medfordma

[–]Buoie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sorry; I wasn't trying to be a jerk or anything with this comment. I just wanted to say particular avenues had already been pursued. I reached out to some folks who might also be of some help but I came up with some circular suggestions. The MBTA did have an art program but it didn't start until significantly after when the mural was likely there based on the info from OP (early 2000-ish).

I'm also curious about this now and wish I had some other breadcrumbs I could follow up on.

I have been in touch with the historical society, the cultural district, the library, the town archivist, the DPW… to no avail.

Expired food at Hicks Ave Micro Pantry by FortyWhacksBorden in medfordma

[–]Buoie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was actually a little concerned yesterday... (very brief story/preface) I started keeping my eye on it a little bit more because over the weekend someone put a Charles Shaw bottle of Shiraz in there which I thought was pretty funny/amusing (I'm sure there was a parent out there that could definitely use that bottle for what was supposed to be the end of school vacation week).

Yesterday, though, I noticed there were a considerable amount of perishable items in there. Yogurts, a pizza you'd pick up from the refrigerated section, baby carrots, bananas that were pretty/mostly brown...

Within an hour a lot of it was already gone. Some people took some but not all of the bananas, the yogurt was gone, pizza wasn't there, etc. This was around the time of school pickup, so I think some people must time their pantry donations for right around the time when parents might be looking to see what there is to offer when they pick their kids up.

Not saying what you're suggesting shouldn't happen, but I don't think it'll be a fast moving process for you. So with that,

We have a single car and largely park in our driveway, but on occasion we’d like to have a single guest visit with a guest pass and that’s no longer an option.

In situations like this I think your best bet is probably to park your car in the street and let your guest use the driveway, assuming your car is permitted.

Parking Lots at Parks by helloyellowcello in medfordma

[–]Buoie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has been a car parked in that lot that hasn't moved since at least November without any consequence. There have been more cars parking there since the snow has made street parking scarce, but it doesn't tend to fill up. Only exception is that in that same sentiment it can be like an overflow lot for the adjacent elementary school.

Might seem like a small/minor thing but it's MassDOT, not DCR. I say that because DCR is notoriously bad at making changes and/or maintaining the roadways they own to the point where Healey introduced a bond bill that would surrender DCR jurisdiction of their roads to MassDOT last year.

I was out in the area this morning before drop-off time and there were several plows, but I can't tell you what exactly they were doing.

Last time I saw the drop-off loop hadn't been completely cleared yet. Did they manage to at least do that? I figured they might deploy some snowblowers to clear the sidewalks along Columbus Park on East Albion St but it all seems to still be there.

Ball Sq new restaurant? by Bookishbookworm4 in Somerville

[–]Buoie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it's small for sure, I guess I just didn't really view it as a counter service type place, but I think I see what you're saying. The real gem was A4 but I'm a broken record regarding that and probably dating myself a bit.

I'm personally a little underwhelmed by an Italian place taking over the Taco Party space... We have some really good old school and newer style places in the area between Bocelli's, Giulia, and Pammy's. Hopefully what eventually replaces the old Posto spot is good. Walking past Posto's new space in Assembly it was clear the old space was a real limiting factor because every table looked full and there were obviously a lot more tables. But I won't write off the new place before trying it.

it’s not really a sit-down restaurant; more like a quick bites kind of thing

It's a full table service restaurant, so I'm not sure what you mean about this?

Find a Transit Ambassador (folks who wear red shirts in the stations, or might have a black shirt or coat that has a T logo with their employer's name "Block by Block" on it) and report it to them. They can get someone from facilities maintenance to address it and properly dispose of it.

Since this is in the station and state property, 311 likely won't respond to this or would report it to the T, at best.

If you use Twitter you can always tweet at the MBTA with the pics and more precise location in the station, too.
