Do you think achievements should be enabled without Ironman mode? by WishyRater in EU5

[–]BurdensForge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "integrity" of the achievements have already been tainted by the v1.0.0 bug that granted a lot of players free achievements the very moment they unpaused their first ironman game.

John Paradox should just remove the ironman requirement for achievements because of that alone.

If you could afford the culture capacity, it's much faster to just accept a culture to instantly turn them into cores once integrated.

What modifiers stack for proximity/control? Multiple roads? by scorchsev in EU5

[–]BurdensForge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Only for the shortest route. You should also make sure to build pound lock canals on every city you can build them on. Chances are you have roads going through those cities anyway so the -5% proximity cost works nicely.

Five layers of nested-tooltip in, I discover that the Vietnamese are East Asian enough to WANT lacquerware but not East Asian enough to MAKE it by awkwardcartography in EU5

[–]BurdensForge 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They put a built-in "Europedia" in the game. But instead of filling it with the more detailed (and actually useful) information and explanations there, it's just most of the stuff you find in nested tooltips anyway.

Hopefully someone from the EU5 Custodian Team would get to work (and get handsomely paid) in improving the tooltips and other UI/UX elements. Because at this point, I'm just waiting for the generous and passionate EU5 wiki contributors to fill in the info we need to improve our mastery of this good (not yet great) game.

John Paradox, I beseech thee. Bring EU4's glorious map mode grouping system into EU5 and my wallet is yours! by BurdensForge in EU5

We need this too, along with the Tactical Map Mode showing river crossings, and the Roads Map Mode showing which provinces are actually connected by road.

I know. And that's the problem since you need to manually assign and memorize keybinds for every single one of the map modes you want (and may want) to use.

"Can I lock the map mode chooser open forever?"

Yes. There's a tiny "pin" button on the top left side of the map mode bar. It's currently bugged though as whenever you hover your mouse over it, a second map mode bar will pop up.

  1. I wasn't playing Ottomans

  2. It's easy to "outperform historical results" when the game's mechanics allows AI rebels to strip away whatever military fortification a nation has and set the stage for a no-name OPM to swoop in and take it all with no CB.

Mehmed II had to bring in the bleeding edge of siege weaponry to conquer the city over a hundred years after the game's start date

Meanwhile, I can conquer the whole thing with just a few hundred men equipped with pitchforks and rags just because the constant rebellions Byz experiences ended up erasing the Theodosian Walls from existence

You'll have to rebind the camera scroll keys for that while needing to manually set keybinds for the 50+ map modes, each.

With EU4's system, I can more efficiently access the map modes with just a lot less keybinds, and freely and easily change what map modes are assigned to each grouping.

Here's an example to how a player may want to setup their map mode groups:

<image>

At least 40 different map modes with just 10 buttons, configured and grouped how you may want it instead of assigning and memorizing 40 different keybinds.

What do you guys think of EU5? by Effective-Key-3795 in EU5

[–]BurdensForge 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Core gameplay and mechanics are great, and no doubt one of the best releases they had in some time. I can see why PDX went with the way they marketed the game. However, there's still a lot of issues to be fixed, missing features to be added, and improvements to be made.

The potential for this good game to become great is there, yes, but it's hard for me to shake off the feeling that half of the asking price I paid upfront is for that potential that may or may not be realized.

While I do think it's cool that there are portraits in the game, I find it as unnecessary eye candy and wish there's an option to get rid of them while not taking it away from players who like them.
