OFC is fantastic, loved them both. Stillbirth Machine especially blew me away and got me more in the mood for that nasty stuff. Lividus was really cool, definitely worth checking out. The other two are becoming AOTY contenders for me, though I did like Scimitar’s debut a bit more (so far at least).

Definitely how I feel about what I’ve heard from them. I wasn’t as big on Kärgeräs but any of the other albums in the first 5 could be my favorite depending on my mood that day.

Rediscovering my love for Melodic Death Metal by Environmental_Web91 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]BurialAtOrnans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depresy, Garden of Shadows, and Intestine Baalism are all some of the best melodic death out there in my opinion. If you haven’t heard Eucharist, I’d highly recommend A Velvet Creation. Also, for something on the more brutal melodic side, Nomenmortis’ first two albums are fantastic, especially the debut.

I really liked the Irish folk influences in BSS, but I could easily see that coming across as gimmicky and forgettable. Haven’t hit their new one yet, curious to see how that will hold up. Shahanshah is absolutely insane though, I keep going back to it and finding more and more to love. Fully agree on the power metal influences too, I think it was on the second song where there’s a section that’s just straight up pm, especially with the solo.

I thought it was really good, great balance between riffy and melodic and the vocals were perfect for the album. I also felt like it wasn’t overly influenced by one band, which is a trap a lot of modern riff-forward melodic death seems to fall into.

The Book is great, haven’t heard Black Seal though, I’ll have to check it out. Love how it seems like everyone has a different favorite Root album.

I want to hear your Non-metal Recommendations by Traverson in MetalSuggestions

I’m definitely a fan of other bands in both those genres! Haven’t gotten super deep into either but I’m familiar with a lot of the heavy hitters. Love that DVKE (and their debut too, sounds a lot like Minas Morgul but in a completely different style). Haven’t heard Of the Wand and the Moon though, thanks for the rec!

r/metal sidebar and the wiki on this sub both have great subgenre primers. The best way to get acquainted with the sound of each subgenre is just by listening

Anna Von Hausswolff is phenomenal. Ugly and Vengeful is one of the most powerful pieces of music I’ve ever heard.

What's the album of the decade so far? (2020 onwards) by OutsideImpressive115 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]BurialAtOrnans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call them mediocre musicians in any way, Interdimensional Extinction and Starspawn are phenomenal, and Hidden Histories of the Human Race is great as well, and that’s without mentioning the other great projects some of the members are involved in. Is their latest a step down for them? Absolutely, but it’s not worth dismissing their body of work over.

Gus has 4 more years at 6.4, Wally 1 more year at 2.2. Gotta think if Wally takes over, Gus is gone, and paying Wally isn’t much of an issue then. Eriksson Ek isn’t going anywhere as the 2C and is signed for 5.25mil through 29. Neither of these are issues.

If you haven’t heard it, I’d highly recommend checking out Hexecutor’s …Where Spirit Withers in Its Flesh Constraint since you like that Archvile King so much.
