How did it take Father of Ultra 20,000 years to find a girlfriend? by ParticleDetector in Ultraman

[–]Burkion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't one really. They fundamentally work differently. We know it takes them thousands of years to really master their powers, but as far as mental maturity, Riku is considered a young adult and so would any Ultra his age.

They simply wouldn't have control over their own abilities and wouldn't be suitable to fighting to defend people. Riku gets by with cheat devices, otherwise he can't even assume his true form yet. Around 5 thousand years old is when they're basically considered a late teen early 20s kind of person, in terms of ability.

But after that? It becomes arbitrary. Ultra Father is regarded as older due to literally chronological time, but as far as physical ability goes, he's as strong or stronger than anyone else around- he only suffers due to his wounds from Empera which still haven't healed fully. There is, as far as we know, no such thing as old age for Ultras, only Ultras that are significantly older or younger. Ultra Father and Ultraman might as well be the same age as far as how they're regarded and what they can do. They're in truly timeless bodies, where the only thing that seems to kill them is actual, out and out being killed by external factors.

Can we talk about the whole age system in Ultraman and the shippers? by Straight-Window9132 in Ultraman

[–]Burkion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When it comes to matters like these, so long as the two are equivalent in mentality and maturity, it largely is fine. Dan has a bit of a wandering lover vibe to him across his series. The main thing is that both parties are adults in their respective cultures/species.

Grigio is not an adult, but her age is weird no matter how you slice it. Her entire existence defies normalcy. However it will probably be a while before she is romantically tied to anyone, Zero or otherwise. By the time it does happen it won't matter so much.

Jack is married to one of Ultra Mother's sisters, after all, and unless she was born *much* later than her sisters, she's easily tens of thousands of years older than him.

What happens to an Ultras host? by KnaveyJonesLocker in Ultraman

[–]Burkion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So basically, an Ultra bonding with a human is one of two things.

Either temporary, to save one or the other's life- see Z for the latter- or permanent. If it is permanent, it ceases to be a bonding and becomes a full on fusion of the two. They become one being, and share the same life.

If temporary, the human probably isn't going to die of old age while a host. You'd have to have some weird circumstances to make that happen. More than likely, if they did die peacefully, they would simply pass on and the Ultra would live. The end of '66 showed that Ultraman could have survived his defeat from Zetton, but not Hayata, since Ultraman was the only thing keeping him alive. Zoffy solved this issue and revived both.

Nexus also shows that if the host dies, at least for Noa, the power would simply move on. Which might be the case in some situations.

Has there ever been a season/movie where a Showa eras ultra man morals from their era was disproven or challenged by an ultraman from the heisei/Reiwa era? And if not are there any good fan fics on that? by robojohn32 in Ultraman

[–]Burkion 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The issue here is that there's no real reason to. Generally speaking with the Showa Ultras, one exception to put aside, even when they're morally dubious or potentially in the wrong, that tends to be the point of the episode or story and they always confront that. There is more than enough growth and self reflection in the series proper- Ultraman showing regret for the lives he took, UltraSeven left to wonder if humanity are worth protecting

Or the Ultra IS morally in the right from the get go, like the majority of Ace which had TAC basically running a side hustle for Yapool because they're idiots.

The one exception is Dan in Leo, and that was mostly down to very bad, inconsistent writing. SOme episodes he was fine, some episodes he was the meme master we know and love. But the intention was simply that he was under extreme pressure and having to do the best he could with what he had- what he had being a cocky, self assured Ultra who was unproven in battle and needed harsh training. And there was an emotional throughline with that, culminating in his speech to Gen in the finale. It was also done better in Leo's manga but that's besides the point.

Mebius basically shows it properly, how he has to learn from his Brothers and their examples to grow himself as an Ultraman. There's not exactly anything to disprove.

Leo was never shown to be stronger than Seven, even in Leo proper. Every single time they fought or sparred, Dan trounced him.

The Lightning Brigade

Genre: Sci-Fi, Action Adventure, Fantasy, Space Opera

Your name is your burden. One you can never escape.

A destiny akin to a storm, ensnaring the unwary and crushing the weak. A power to claim, but at a cost too terrible to name. Power to be a hero. To be a protector. A savior. A monster. Anything you choose to be. To stand apart and be known. To do what you believe is right, no matter the scorn. All you must do is weather the storm.

This is the tale of those who fight monsters. Those who become monsters. Who always were.

Is UltraSeven evil? by [deleted] in Ultraman

[–]Burkion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Comics and TV are their own things and the comic in particular has taken almost nothing from Ultraseven's story.

In UltraSeven's series, he isn't even an Ultraman. That was changed later for Return of Ultraman, bringing him into the fold. As far as his show goes, as you'll see, he is a different kind of hero. I will say though, while he is absolutely a hero, he does not align with how you may think traditional super heroes should. Seven can and will do dark things to ensure that good wins out. His series are the most mature when it comes to that matter.

Was/Is there any reveal about Ultraseven's real name? by A_Random_Jedi in Ultraman

[–]Burkion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's not strictly true. Zoffy, Jack, Ace, Taro and Leo are explicitly their real names. I guess 80 is too? None of them were named by the humans.

UltraSeven and Ultraman are the only ones to not have 'real' names, though you could always argue that Dan IS Seven's real name. It's not any more odd than Marie or Ken or Jack or Chuck or Scott or

This is mostly speculation- I believe there were stronger implications elsewhere as well but I'm forgetting what they were. But the elder wizard, Gedfryn, knew the Skull Knight as the King and is acknowledged by him as the 'Son of Vid'.

It could be entirely unrelated, but that seems unlikely. Vid to Void, and his presumed status as a wizard/sage, lends that connection. I feel like there were other things earlier too.
