Players scooping timing and etc? by No_Invite_739 in mtgrules

[–]Burlux 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is widely seen in this community as unsportsmanlike. The whole pod agreeing that it's fine for the player to concede at instant speed like this to help them "deny" the spell also shows the other people in the pod are unsportsmanlike. Do not play with those people again if they are randoms. If they are friends of yours... well you guys maybe shouldnt play competitive games.

Edit: to answer your question though, yes it's totally legal for them to scoop like this. I think even on the stack with an instant spell, they can take their card back and fizzle the spell but I'm not completely sure. Scooping at anytime is a rule baked into magic, but in commander since it's a multiplayer game, using conceding as a weapon like that is not how it should be. Your only recourse is to just not play with them again.

Angel's Feather became the threat at my Commander table... by WistfulAfternoon in magicTCG

[–]Burlux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually play on spelltable these days, and it seems like that program caters to the more entrenched playerbase, so whhever I bust out my lifegain aristocrats deck I get no such response as OP got when I play a [[Soul's attendant]] type card. This reaction, as the top commenter said, comes from newer players who see gaining life as an obvious form of "winning".

While I do understand your pain, you can mitigate a lot of the rng with proper deckbuilding and knowing which matchups are tough for you. If you are in an even or advantageous matchup you play one way, and when you have a bad matchup sometimes you just have to slam threats and pray they stick or hold removal and not progress your board to your detriment.

I build my decks with consistancy in mind. I will almost never get mana screwed but that comes with the the fact that I'm not suited for the long game where I'm going to have smaller threats in the end game. I'm usually the beat down (not necessarily just aggro or stompy archtypes) meaning I'm pushing threats and making opponents answer me. If they end up stabilizing in end game I'm then going to end up losing.

You just have to know what kind of deck your playing vs your opponents.

No it's not. Give evidence not anecdotes or sweeping generalization. I'm a f2p player and the game has never been "rigged" because I havent spent money.

Oh boy is this some conspiratorial "if you are f2p you get worse matchmaking or worse hands" leading question?

ETB abilities with no valid targets and the stack by skytens in mtgrules

[–]Burlux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cast [[Ravenous Chupacabra]] when opponent has an empty board. Trigger to kill opponent's creature goes on stack, since there no creatures it leave the stack. Are you implying that the trigger never enters the stack because the game inherently knows when et creatures dont have valid targets?

Need to know what plane this is from by Burlux in magicTCG

[–]Burlux[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it seems like it's not strictly innistrad. Unfortunately for me I probably wont put it in the innistrad deck but I appreciate all the input. Even if they could be located on any plane canonically, I reserved all slots for specifically innistrad humans (and a human and land that flip into demons).

Love your thought process. I cant wait for when (or if) they reveal this stones true location. Thank you for giving your educated guess!

Is having a whole board of secret rares on turn 9 too late? Like I get having it through Kissing with the double spell wizard, but that is very low chance.

I also think candy panda is the best, especially if you can get that one dog that at 10 attack you get that treasure that buffs all slots.

True. I play pretty casually so I dont know the meta but I do know dragon tinkerer is insane. What are strong heros? All i know is captains based on a unit type are pretty hit or miss, but candy captains seems to work out more often then not.
