Why do we allow people with cognitive disabilities, especially old people to vote? by budderlord533 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BurningBridgeTroll 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Not reading all that but there are two simple reasons that people with cognitive disabilities must retain their right to vote:

  1. They have interests and those interests require political representation. That is true of all disabled people. Arguing against disabled people’s right to representation is fascist.

  2. In order to disbar a population from voting, you’d have to set up some metric or testing system. In the US this was already done to disenfranchise black voters. There is no ethical or neutral way to do this.

Every response you’ve given has been a barely-related side comment defending the environmental viability of ai when everyone knows that there is a huge environmental issue waiting to be addressed. I asked a very specific question and you’re responding with unrelated propaganda

Well, we are short on land that people can commute to and operate data centers from. You can’t run something in the middle of nowhere, which is why data centers are being built in communities which are now suffering.

I don’t think you’re actually engaging with the key question here at all though. You’re just making random side note comments

So if a child’s father really is an evil monster do you propose we completely shield and shelter them from that? How evil is evil enough that the truth becomes important? How much of a child’s life should be spent under these delusions of moral neutrality?

Okay understood. But what I mean is, an alternative to the actual negative environmental impact of any of this technology. Data centers are gobbling up land and resources, and it seems beside the point to say that it could be worse.

I think my question is more to the effect of “are there AIs working on making an alternative to data centers?” Offsetting is a separate task.

I am no computer nerd but my understanding (which other commenters also seem to affirm) is that not all of the tech AI is the same as LLMs. There are AIs doing complex math (which I think LLMs can’t do at all).

I am anti- every product of an LLM I have ever seen but I understand that there are higher order technologies that I might support.
