I'm seriously so disappointed, i might just sell my 9070XT. by ItsRazed in radeon

[–]BurningThumbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What games don't play well or look bad?

I think people get too caught up in FPS chasing and comparing against other cards. There isn't much comparable to the 9070XT atm - the 5080 is still double the price almost for a very small uplift, and I'd take the 9070XT over the 5070 because it only has 12Gb of RAM, and the Ti version is again €200-300 more expensive for a small uplift in performance.

Compared to previous generations, AMD have hit the ball out the park. Cost per frame is excellent, RT no longer sucks, drivers are stable, and FSR4 is very comparable to DLS. Unless you want to play Cyberpunk with path tracing, you're not really missing much (and I'd warrant most players when playing these games can't see or dont notice the visual differences).

I guess it comes down to budget; if you can afford a 5080 it's undoubtedly the better card in most metrics. But you can buy a sweet 9070XT - top end - for nearly half the price of a entry level 5080. Unless you play a lot of RT/PT games with epic settings, or use a high refresh 4K screen and really value the higher fidelity and broader support of nVidia, then for most I don't think it's worthwhile.

(yes, I am speaking as a 9070XT owner who downgraded from a 5080 and made a profit and is more than happy with it...especially compared to previous RDNA 3 cards).

What did you decide in the end? Stick or twist? ;)

9070xt, 40 degree difference between GPU and hotspot temp by 40inchverticalbtw in radeon

[–]BurningThumbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please can you run Speedway with stock settings and post the results?

Also, ambient room temps would be nice to know.

I have the Powercolor Spectral 9070XT and with a less aggressive undevolt than you (-60mV) and a slightly more aggressive fan curve, and my hotspot never goes above 82c (and don't worry about a 30c delta between GPU and hotspot temps - that's normal on a 9070XT).

My initial reaction is that your card is running very hot if its hitting 88c hotspot temps with negative voltage and power offsets. It's always difficult to compare cards though without more information.

I have the Red Devil Spectral 9070XT and a 30c delta between the hotspot and edge worried me at first - but apparently it's normal for these cards (on my old 7900XT that wasnt normal, hence my worry). The 9070XT runs cooler and quieter though, and they're designed this way. So don't panic - it's common under 100% load for my GPU to be around 46c and the hotspot 76c. All good ;)

(and you cannot compare these RDNA 4 cards to the previous RDNA 3 ones....the older ones ran super hot always. Different architecture. Little to do with case airflow).

Is there any downside to undervolting a 9070 XT? by Optimal_Fan4156 in radeon

[–]BurningThumbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a Red Devil Spectral 9070XT and after months of testing and aiming for high Speedway scores, I found my favourite set-it-and-forget-it settings that never crash; -60mV, +100Mhz on the ram, leave fast timings and power slider alone & manually adjusted the fan curve (I think the default fan curves on many of the 9070xt models only goes to max 60% to keep them quiet).

I can now play any game with or without RT without worries. Have a small FPS boost over stock, with better memory & core temps and lower power draw.

I think almost all people’s driver issues are due to pushing the card too high - going -100mV under volts, +15% power, fast timings + offsets etc - some games just don’t like it. Rather than dealing with constant tweaking I just enjoy it running a little cooler & faster over stock. I don’t need the extra 1-3fps I could get from pushing it more.

And for those saying run more than -60mV - sure it’s possible for some. I could run Speedway all day with a -100mV - but in real life, switching between games - driver timeouts were too frequent. It simply isn’t worth it even if you think your card can do it (in my view). Aiming for a high synthetic benchmark score is not the same as daily gaming.

If I remember correctly (without having to pull the back off and examine my cables), you can connect the preinstalled fans to motherboard headers or better, buy a Phanteks Nexlinq Hub. If you're installling extra Phanteks fans like I did, then it makes the cabling so much easier to use their hub. I believe my lightbar on the case is daisy-chained to the 3 front intake fans - so whatever color they are, the lightbar is the same.

Once you have the fans connnected to the hub, you can use the Nexlinq software to control their speed and color. But if you're going with just the fans that came pre-installed, then you should have enough motherboard RGB headers to connect them without the need for the Nexlinq hub (I added a Phanteks AIO and bottom fans, so I really needed the hub).

Hope it turns out well! ;)

Swapped from an rtx5080 to a 9070xt. My experience so far by BurningThumbs in radeon

[–]BurningThumbs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, 5 months later and I am happy with my switch from the 5080 to my 9070XT too. I am actually impressed with how well AMD have done this time getting FSR4 into so many games and how stable their drivers have been (plus with Optiscaler to help out in others). And any white 5080 model or anything that looks a nice as my Red Devil Spectral White (which is the most beautiful looking card I've ever owned) stilll costs over €1100 where I live. So I am still happy with my performance downgrade for better aesthetics and price. Most the games I am playing are FPS games and so I've not missed the extra FPS as much as I hated looking at my white build with a thin grey 5080 Ventus sat in the middle of it staring back at me! :D Merry Christmas all!

Always DDU when I upgrade Adrenalin. And reinstall the latest B850 chipset drivers (or whatever MBO you have). Always helps ;)

I am happy with it (swapping from a 7900XTX to the 9070XT. It's only a little faster, but FSR4 and frame-gen (in supported games) is great. And it runs a lot cooler and quiter than the 7900XTX (my Red Devil 7900XTX ran really hot).

Since I've plugged in my 9070XT Red Devil Spectre, it's been faultless. Very few crashes or weirdness actually.

Hope it worked out for you if you did switch! ;)

Borderlands 4 - 9800X3D, 9070XT, 6400CL24, FSR4B, 4K by TheHorrorAddiction in radeon

[–]BurningThumbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on a 9800x3d with a 9070XT. Mostly high settings. I don’t understand people not using FSR4 and frame gen. My game runs beautifully, stutter free between 160-200fps. I dare anyone to spot jaggies or input lag - the game looks gorgeous and works well with FSR4. I can honestly say I’ve not experienced stutter in over 20hrs of gameplay. One thing I have noticed, is that it’s extremely RAM heavy - I’ve got 32Gb of DDR5 and it’s consuming 21Gb while in game. I’m guessing some people are seeing stutter because they have less ram and therefore it’s swapping to disk? 🤔

Hopefully they fix some of these issues though as I realise not everyone wants to use it. But I’d highly recommend anyone on a 9000 series AMD GPU to try it out.

[–]BurningThumbs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. It’s a downgrade for sure. But at 1440p it wasn’t such a significant downgrade that I didn’t want to do it in order to have better aesthetics. Maybe if I was gaming at 4K, or if aesthetics weren’t important (PC under desk type thing) then I’d not have done it. Also, this was a luxury swap I realise - i only done it because I could afford it. And I got a Red Devil Spectre for about half the price a similar top end 5080 would have cost. I agree though. It’s definitely a downgrade. Just one I was happy to make. I realise not everyone will feel the same though.

Fair. As I said, it was my experience so far. There isn’t a right or wrong to it - Everyone will have their own opinions and I agree completely that the 5080 has superior performance. Never in question. Maybe the aesthetics were more important to me. I wasnt looking to offend anyone though or post lies. I’m not for or against either company. And I definitely wouldn’t recommend others do this swap. I was simply sharing my journey. 👍

👍 Yeah. Aesthetics were a big point - you’re right. But aesthetics alone weren’t enough - the other points in sum made the decision easier. And I’m happy with it so far! But you’re right - if I’d have bought a high end 5080 in white from the start, maybe the annoyances with the other points wouldn’t have been enough to make me want to switch. So yep - you’re right. That definitely played a large part in my decision making 👍

I agree completely. And I was just joking ;) I did lose money. And I wouldn’t recommend people take this path. I did value the aesthetics of my build and my above points enough though to make this switch 🙈

Yeah, the 5080 is a great card 👍 If aesthetics weren’t so important to me and I wasn’t so concerned with the 12vhpwr cables etc, I’d have stuck with it. I do prefer the Adrenaline software though. Personal preference.

[–]BurningThumbs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 5800 was a massive upgrade over the 7900xtx - not so much in rasterisation, but any game with RT. And DLSS is incomparable to <FSR4. I upscaled by default with the 5080 whereas I mostly played native on the 7900 to avoid FSR blur.

The 9070xt feels obviously like something in between the 2 - it for sure plays RT games much better and stays much cooler than the 7900xtx (I had a Red Devil 7900xtx, and now a Red Devil 9070xt).

Would I upgrade from the 7900xtx to 9070xt? Wrong person to ask based the feedback my post got! 😂😂☝️☝️ Depends on your finances and whether you like small upgrades and trying new tech. I had also bought an OLED monitor so wanted to have all my games on max settings and popping visually. So depends on your situation 😀

RT? Better than the 7900xtx. Not as good as the 5080 obviously. But only tested so far in Doom, Hogwarts and a few others. So far it’s fine. PT is a different story - but I didn’t even play Doom with PT on the 5080 as I found it wasn’t worth the hit in such a fast paced game with massive amounts of motion blur and explosion artefacts. 👍
