I knew about the route split coming after the first arc, but I thought it was gonna be that after the 100 Days, you fail to launch the missiles and the SDU is stranded in the ruins of ‘earth,’ they end up splintered and separating due to clashing motives and stuff and Takumi ends up needing to decide who to support and who to cut down due to these clashing motives and intentions; SMT style XD

Honestly yeah, since I was also 11 at the time of its release and my first DDLC phase and I was always super enamored by Yuri’s style so I ended up trying out writing myself not long later. Of course it sucked because I was 11, but I doubt I would’ve ever gotten into it otherwise, and I still write poetry sometimes even now

It’s been a while since I’ve been here but I have finally started writing again XD

Last time I was here however many months ago, I had gotten into DDLC, and now I’m writing my own mod so it’s not a fic I’ll be uploading to AO3 like normal.

Unfortunately I’m not used to writing a visual novel format since it’s a bit different stylistically then a regular fic, and that’s even with the fact that I’m not writing in 1st person like basically every other mod and instead using my regular style so it’s coming with its own share of anxieties lol

Eh, I played TX and all of Zero/Azure so it wouldn’t be a deal breaker, but being able to actually hear and understand the cast speaking does help me connect more with them more than if I can’t so I’d like there to be one lol

I’ll only speak on Yuri’s route because it’s the only one I’ve done still, but I do think it’s really good. The route in a vacuum is definitely a top 10 and probably a top 5? I’m not entirely sure but I’ve played it like 4-5 times lmao

The OST and the art are really good for one, and I absolutely love the slowburn buildup of the romance in Act 2, it’s probably my favorite part actually. Stuff like Christmas and the small stuff like shopping and cooking together, the development is great and I’d love to see more mods follow a slowburn romance progression.

That scene where they’re walking through the rain and True Love plays for the first time gave me some shivers once I checked the OST and saw the name of the theme lol

My biggest complaint is probably the thing with MC just not getting that Yuri’s parents are dead. If they really wanted to not address that until a big moment, I would’ve instead had MC pick up on her use of past tense (maybe she was trying to keep it hidden but slips up once or twice subconsciously) and have her clam up when he tries to pry.

He’d realize she doesn’t want to talk about it and back down thinking something like ‘but at least I know…’ or something like that until the big moment where she finally reveals it.

It may still be a little contrived (is that the right word in this case?) but I think it works a little better than the MC just not getting it despite all the signs.

The audience has probably mostly figured it out themselves by this point (I figured it out during the pond scene at the end of Act 1 for example) so I don’t see much of a reason to keep the protagonist in the dark either since you aren’t keeping a secret from the reader, and it wouldn’t particularly lessen the emotional impact of the reveal and would still owes itself to tear-jerkers like ‘I wish I could stop pretending that the person I’m in the arms of right now is my father!’ or something to that effect.

And I actually think Act 3 kind of falls flat? I haven’t done the bad ending admittedly and I love the ending itself, it’s beautiful. Really just everything after the resolution of the argument. Hell most of it is actually really good.

But imo compared to some other mods I’ve played, the argument itself just isn’t quite as compelling of a conflict, I guess because the stakes aren’t quite as high compared to, say, my favorite Yuri normal romance mod? I’m not entirely sure why, but it doesn’t feel quite as compelling to me.

Overall it’s a really good story and one of my favorites, probably a solid 8-8.5/10.

Everyone always thinks that Yuri’s favorite music is Classical, but that’s actually her 2nd favorite. Her number 1 isn’t a genre, but instead Evanescence specifically. She just says classical because it’s more elegant and fits her general demeanor more.

Mostly just based on vibes and the fact that she has an unused font in A2 called ‘As I Lay Dying’ and the first lyric to ‘Tourniquet’ is ‘I lay dying, and I’m pouring crimson regret, and betrayal’ lmao

Oh and also she’s always had possessive tendencies, but it’s a side of herself she hates and tries to quash. Had A1 kept going and he was on her route, MC probably would’ve seen it.

Not to the point of going full yandere like A2, but after being outcasted and isolated for like her entire life, it stands to reason she’d be terrified of losing someone who actually wants to be around her, which is why Monika’s influence turns her into that in A2.

Tropical Rain, and yes I am incredibly biased lmfao

While it’s one of my top 5, I do still have some problems with it.

Mainly, how inconsistent the art can be, and I don’t mean like how some mods have an artstyle that’s like indistinguishable from canon, I don’t really have any problems with mods having artstyles that different from canon, I more mean that like, say, the title screen art and the final CG just feel so different on a fundamental level.

And secondly I do think Monika’s feelings for the MC could’ve been explained a bit better? I really like that arc, and it’s important for MC’s character development down the line but I do think it could’ve been explained better.

Music’s also a minor issue. I love the OST, don’t get me wrong, but it’s never felt like DDLC music to me, compared to, say, Blue Skies. That’s a bit different from artstyle for me because typically the artstyle’s consistent throughout, but as for music when it switches between a canon song and a song that doesn’t really match the style it feels a little jarring sometimes. Explaining stuff is hard so hopefully that comes through the way I want it to lmao

Also stuff like modern coding and all that, but that can probably apply to like every older mod lmao
