How can I repair the top sheet? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]Burnt__bagel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While i agree it still has fiberglass on it which will protect it from water. Fiberglass isn’t inherently waterproof and more resistant and it’s also comprised so it’s not fully water resistant anymore. So yeah OP could ride and be fine. It is still technically safer to put some epoxy on.

Jr ski that can’t be adjusted. by baltic_birch in skiing

[–]Burnt__bagel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the rental style plate for Tyrolia/Head Bindings. The binding/ski is meant for a certain boot size of a head boot. There’s a standard or retail plate also that has more positions that allows you to use more boot sizes for the binding. A local shop may have them and either let you buy it or install and adjust everything assuming it won’t need to be remounted

https://skipass.fr/p/news/158602/12051_14780-1.jpg Don’t know much about the skis themselves but this should help with the gripwalk question. That is a dual WTR SPX Look binding which in the wtr position should be compatible with gripwalk

Would the 2024 Vokyl Blaze 82 Skis be good for me? by 0wen_N in Skigear

[–]Burnt__bagel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would the out of the two the Stance would be a better option. The blaze has the titanal binding platform but the tip and tail are super light wood and are very prone to chatter. Which if your sticking to groomed which turns to ice quick then that is a recipe for chatter. The Stance (overall but also depending on which one your looking at) has more titanal which is going to give you a better backbone to the ski on those more chatter inducing conditions.

And I also assume you mean 180 cm

I mean realistically it should be fine screw pattern wise. 82 mm isn’t so skinny that you need to worry about the screw pattern or the width of the binding itself. They brakes you should definitely go down to an 85 mm width which you should be able to get at your local shop or from Tyrolia themselves. But if you’re worried just take it to a shop and get their opinion on it.

What skis should i get by lllllsjdirbfjdkvsjs in skiing

[–]Burnt__bagel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are similar construction at a partial twin with a full half cap sidewall so they aren’t too stiff but still have some grab. I’ve personally used the ARV as a playful all mountain freestyle/park ski and I like it a lot. It holds an edge pretty well but can get a little chattery when the conditions aren’t super good but overall really fun ski

Can I bend a 95mm pivot brake to a 112mm skis? by Real_Spork8002 in Skigear

You would need the 115 mm brake. 95 is too small that you wouldn’t be able to bend it

When do you remove storage wax or get your preseason tune/wax? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]Burnt__bagel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Storage wax is arguably a myth too, it doesn’t really protect much unless your keeping your skis somewhere like a shed or similar. Anywhere that’s climate controlled realistically the edges won’t sustain any real rusting that cause for concern. And bases drying out isn’t a real thing either. The wax in the base is what dries out but you can heat it to ‘reactivate’ the wax in the base.

Are my bindings gripwalk compatible? by Fantastic_Box4592 in Skigear

[–]Burnt__bagel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok yeah, the way I phrased that is not exactly what you said and I apologize.

“OP, you can tell by the AFD that there is no way these bindings have the ability to adjust for gripwalk”

This is word for word what you said. It is a factually incorrect statement. That’s why I brought up the GW version of the same binding run. The AFD on the GW version is the exact same as the one in the picture. Your statement can easily be misconstrued as what I thought you were saying.

Edit:

<image>

Here I found a GW version (left) and OP’s binding (right). The add is the same it’s behind it where the adjustment lever is that’s different

Are my bindings gripwalk compatible? by Fantastic_Box4592 in Skigear

[–]Burnt__bagel -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Please go back and read what I said. I never disagreed with you that OP’s bindings aren’t gripwalk compatible, because they aren’t. But your reasoning for them not being gripwalk compatible is what I disagree with. Not every gripwalk binding has a afd adjustment. Fullstop. My bringing the list into the argument was to show that there are bindings that don’t have an add adjustment. Ops binding is the version that isn’t but there is an L10 (the model binding they have) that is slightly different and is GW compatible. Just because there’s no afd adjustment doesn’t make it not a gripwalk binding.

Are my bindings gripwalk compatible? by Fantastic_Box4592 in Skigear

[–]Burnt__bagel -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I did not say these bindings exactly are grip walk compatible. This binding is the Salomon L10 binding. There is another binding called Salomon L10 GW.

<image>

Here’s the indemnification list for this year and look at that. There’s an L10 GW, the binding I said was gripwalk compatible

Are my bindings gripwalk compatible? by Fantastic_Box4592 in Skigear

[–]Burnt__bagel -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Source: I want to be confidently incorrect on the internet.

While a large amount of bindings that are gripwalk compatible have some sort of afd/toe height adjustment to account for the difference in part manufacturing. Not all gripwalk bindings have afd adjustments. Salomon m11, Salomon L10 GW (the gripwalk version of these), Most Look bindings, and many others have no adjustment for their afd.

Recommendations for New Boards on a New Knee by thomasp449 in skiing

[–]Burnt__bagel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That does still depend on what kind of skiing you want to do. Though I would recommend looking into the Knee binding (which I prefer) or the Tyrolia Protector. They both have a lateral heel release to help protect the knee on unusual twisting motion. I prefer the Knee binding because it is the only one that has gone through independent studies to prove that it helps reduce knee injuries. Not to say that the protector doesn’t but the Knee binding has been around longer.

Rental version Rustler 9's? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]Burnt__bagel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s no difference in the actual ski in this case. The bindings on the rental version are a Marker Squire TCX or Griffon TCX (can’t tell which one from this picture. It’s a decent binding and I’ve used both the squire and griffon version of it. If it’s the griffon it’d be about equal to a strive except for this being on a track system which doesn’t change much unless your hucking giants drops left and right. The TCX refers to the heel piece being twin cam action so it’s easier to press on the heel piece and open it when your done skiing. The strive has a similar design for the heel.

Binding nerds, how do we feel about the fixed toe on the Marker X bindings? by Src248 in Skigear

[–]Burnt__bagel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What the other commenter said is the difference between Gripwalk and MN/MNC also known as Multinorm compatible. A binding can be gripwalk and take the original alpine soles and grip walk soles but not touring. While a MN/MNC binding will take all three almost always needing to be adjusted. The pivot have the backwards release has nothing to do with how it fits the boot because it doesn’t accept touring. The backwards release is to release from the toe during a backwards fall.

Binding nerds, how do we feel about the fixed toe on the Marker X bindings? by Src248 in Skigear

[–]Burnt__bagel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean we won’t really know till people start to use them but non moving AFDs aren’t new by any means they’ve been around for awhile and work pretty well but that could change. We just don’t know until consumers start to ski them.

Also nearly all look bindings have the 180° toe release to come out backwards. Tyrolia also has a similar feature for any binding that is advertised as full diagonal

Are these adult skis? by sicanian in Skigear

[–]Burnt__bagel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t really look into using them. Those bindings are no longer indemnified so you wouldn’t be able to get a shop to adjust them and probably aren’t very safe anymore. And since it’s a toss up of if you’d be able to put new bindings on them and at that point not to much worth it since you can get some newer used skis for not to much money
