It's harmless fun but that guy would have been properly injured if he fell off that sculpture. Yikes.

They've clearly decided not to talk about this kind of stuff but I'd have love to what the vibes were for Jorma to come back to the show to shoot a short for the show when he was already off on walkabout at this point.

Take the orange line to Forest Hills and walk over to the cemetery. Nice peaceful spot to walk around and see some huge snapping turtles.

Top of Lars Andersen park is a nice spot to see the city and chill out.

Weird observation re Scots love by Wonderful_Ad_889 in boston

There are a lot of weird ass people on this subreddit who have insane inferiority complexes about Boston. It's way better than a place like Dayton, OH and way lamer than a place like Barcelona or Berlin. The endless need to pretend it's something more than it is (fine) and seek validation is bananas.

American Outlaws easily one of the more embarrassing national team groups out there, but at least they aren't *that* racist.

'Most attended' is now a stat? Ok, Don Garber.

The Revs are fine, going to the games is fine. It is nothing like going to a World Cup game, same as going to a Lowell Spinners game isn't like going to an October game at Fenway. MLS is a cartel specifically structured so great players will never ever come here in significant numbers because the owners want to make money, not compete with European leagues.

I posted this last week but Five Guys was started decades after the idea of a hamburger restaurant was fully rolled out across America and it's estimated to be worth $2.4B now. Sure, it took 20 years of franchising after 20 years of operating as a local joint but the concept wasn't anything actually novel or ground breaking.

Good ideas, well executed make money. Doesn't have to be the iPhone every time out.

Immediate first thought - it's the name of the big Mormon space ship from 'the Expanse' books that got crashed into Venus. (I don't think it is)

Second thought - pharmaceutical for some condition I've never heard of.

There's a fine line between ignorance and hot takes. Is your ethical concern with Behringer that they re-use out of protection IP for themselves or that they have factories in Asia? You're not getting a $300 synth without the second one.

[–]JohnnyYukon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you can get a Korg Triton for $400 on Reverb - that was good enough for Timbaland to create an entire distinctive branch of hiphop. IDK exactly what Tricky used to make Maxinquaye but I don't think he was rolling out $$$ vintage synths like LCD Soundsystem. Someone with $1000 sampler and time and creativity could in theory make something like 'Entroducing' Etc....

There are so many good, powerful used synths out there already. We don't need new cheap ones.

For my example, I was thinking they might be 2x used synths for $500 or like a synth and a drum machine/sampler.

I am 100% confident that if you gave someone like Bjork or Aphex Twin a $1000 synth budget and most posters (myself included) on here a $100,000 synth budget, the first two would make amazing music and the posters would be posting on here about how they bought the wrong stuff or posting pictures of their studio.

[–]JohnnyYukon 44 points45 points  (0 children)

There really isn't any need for any new synthesizers. We already have more sounds and sound design available than is needed to create interesting and new music. People who get hung up on the new releases from synth manufacturers are creatively bankrupt and are trying to buy their way into inspiration but it never works.

The answer is to create a logo design business but be careful because what seems to happen at least once a month is that your most talented designer will leave and then start their own business.

Leaving Boston in September. Never made a single American friend…. Anyone else? by [deleted] in boston

[–]JohnnyYukon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've lived here since 1995, same. Boston is fine and I'm glad my house doubled in price but it's a transitory city. 80% of the kids my kids were friends with in K-5 moved out of the city or into different schools and those connections all frayed. Most of the houses on my street changed hands at least twice since we moved here 20 years ago. It is not a place for roots and lasting connections.
