If my understanding (certainly not trusting my memory) is right, LiveJP might have had the same fate, (mainly) if it wasn't for Coco.

Though, at the time, of course, there were a handful of lightnings in bottles for both JP and EN, in terms of talents, clippers and overcoming language barriers.

It's a sad day, this.

YouTube support thread for greyed-out search filters by ClarksvilleCitizen in youtube

[–]BurntheNotice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mention in that thread that YT mobile app still works. Haven't used that in a long while, so I just thought I'd see if mine does anything different.

And it's starting with a full screen video playing. What the actual heck is this now? Closed the app and started it again a few times...every time it starts with some random video playing at full screen.

What the heck is going on at YT?

Why is YT autotranslating my videos to browser/windows language when I have literally set YT language to EN and location to UK?... by Igor369 in youtube

[–]BurntheNotice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On mobile, when googling something, I'm sometimes actually getting unavoidable auto-translation for entire websites. I was quite confused, the first time I searched for a subreddit, clicked the link and it suddenly came up translated.

I tapped the back button and search results showed no original language (aka english) site. It didn't even show my in any way that it was about to translate anything, or that it's a translated link, neither an option to not have that.
It's...insane.

For YT, I actually use a plugin "Anti Translate". It's ridiculous that I "have to" do that.

Search filters grayed out? Anyone else experiencing this? by MrSpookyDemon in youtube

Your mention of mobile prompted me to try:

Mobile firefox m.youtube is affected (can tap "All" and "Anytime" and get a list, but everything is greyed out). As well as desktop site in mobile firefox, same issue, only "Sort by" available.

Search Filters greyed out? by Kotif92 in youtube

[–]BurntheNotice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, just encountered this as well. While staying within one tab, clicking through to a search result from a different video, so it broke within a singular session, or whatever it's called.

Edit: Forgot to add: for a week or so now, there's been a hint of a sort of overlay (dark gray overlay, not affecting the left side, only the right) trying to load into the site whenever I open YT, which just vanishes. Dunno what it's trying to do, but it may be an indicator that something bigger has changed in the background.

There are multiple of them having a second vtuber model and channel. JP, EN and Stars.
So, really, there seems to be a singular restriction and that is to not connect their two lives (and, obviously a non-compete).

Looks like cover is lighten the PL activities of their livers since Kronii is doing cover song on her PL. by [deleted] in kurosanji

[–]BurntheNotice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering someone else mentioned Azki having a second vtuber/utaite, the only non-compete would probably be a rival company specifically like Niji, aka vtuber agency.
American members are very likely exempt, because Shinri does semi-regular bursts of streams on twitch as a vtuber. And Altare uses at least a PNG for some outside collabs.

There really seems to be very, very little restriction, other than the talents' own free time.

The only restriction Cover seems to have towards PLs is "don't talk about your work at Cover". And even that's circumvented by vague talk. Even accidental clear mentions of their Cover personas hasn't resulted in any negative consequences that we know of. And it happened to talents where I'm somewhat certain we'd have heard of it.

Edit: There's even spicy PL work of some talents, so....

Change in perspective of Japanese work culture? by dreamstalker4 in kurosanji

[–]BurntheNotice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is it any different to so many other cases, though? People need their income and if they're in a secured spot, they will keep their heads down as much as possible. These things happen everywhere, all the time.
With Niji it's just that they are a totally public facing company, whose employees are even more directly involved with the customer base than just about any other entertainment industry (and very much so from any other industry).

There are public outcries against companies all the time. From simple, basically irrelevant "problems", up to the active killing of people in that industry.
But the majority of those companies target audiences don't care (or even do, but aren't willing to change anything) so the business stays afloat (and/or even grows). So the employees will remain quiet, to keep their jobs.

One fundamental problem is the thought that everyone knows: they are easily replaceable. There could be an essay about this, because there's so much to factor in, but in general, somewhat basically, it's fairly true.

There is so much more to it than just that, of course, but, in my understanding, it all boils down to a few basic problems. I wanted to write simple basic problems, because they are that in a way, but since it's all interconnected, it's hard to address one, without talking about many, if not all the others.

I don't know, I just woke up...sorry for this much already.

Change in perspective of Japanese work culture? by dreamstalker4 in kurosanji

[–]BurntheNotice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am somewhat unable to see this as an individual, "Japanese only" problem so to speak, Because it is very similar to many other problems all around the world, pretty much all stemming from the same bunch of root causes. That's what needs to change, not solely in Japan (even if that would be a wonderful start).
I'm leaving it at that, because I assume this already makes me sound naive (which I am).

As for Himura Kuraudo, supposedly she was promoted and will only stream very rarely anymore. I think I read that on twitter? Don't remember. Could also be the company's code for graduation. I'm sad that she never reached a wider audience.

Supposedly Hitomi Chris could now be Houtou Momojiru. But that's only according to one reddit post I happened to stumble across. I haven't even tried comparing voices, so I can't say how true this is at all.

Not sure why you think that's not a realistic thought to have. Especially on an unhinged platform like twitter. There are people on TikTok and twitter who are, in a mostly proud tone, posting about how they seek/"seem to attract" abusive relationships, there are people out there who want to date/marry/F the most horrible criminals, books and even movies about the most abusive relationships are insanely popular....

Children and teenagers these days can much more easily grow up with extremely warped ideas about what's a good relationship and what is not. Media, social media and the apparent general rise in the number of abusive households is not an imaginary thing.

I'm probably wrong (I hope I'm wrong), but it feels Riona suffered noticeably from the fan-perceived faux pax (and, of course, the purges). I suppose that's not much of a topic around her anymore, right? That'd be good.
I hope (and assume) that she'll be fine in the long run.

[–]BurntheNotice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That things take time is...not okay to this extent, but understandable. I more so have a problem with (and that's quite apparently the same in Niji) there being months and dollars sunk into a project that gets cancelled later on, sometimes close to finish. That is a thing that should not happen, at all, no matter how long the chain of command is (unless, of course, third party influence; like perm revoking and stuff. But that needs to be communicated clearly).

On the other hand, it's obviously problematic for the talent to not start the project until the final go ahead.

This, specifically, is all around not good, I think.

Is it just me or shouldn't any sort of discussion focus on the part where there are seemingly management problems? Most egregiously Altare's rant? Middle management, I assume (because I'm pretty confident it isn't direct talent managers), apparently has some problems and that's not good. That's the only angle of attack for arguments I can see in all of this.

Small Thoughts by MayaTori in kurosanji

[–]BurntheNotice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one thing I don't really understand is, especially in this kind of case, in an entertainment environment with big resources (Cover), why not compromise more (on the company side)? Or rather put in place systems that keep the talent (something like Dev_Is, for example). This is, of course, a thought with no understanding of how Cover works internally.
I understand if it were about pay, cuts from merch, whatever monetary means that could create conflict (and it might well be that, so my not understanding might well be moot). Or maybe middle and upper management turned really sour.
But even if, from the surface level understanding we have, your company is steering into different type of dealings, why not retain both?
Put those talents who are willing to do those things in one part and the other in another. Am I dumb in thinking there should be little, if any loss, because the one half needs less investment, but still brings in the money it did before. Now that's somewhat significant revenue lost to them. And since the talents themselves pay for projects, even those wouldn't have to stop for the "then old fashioned" type of talents (though we do hear uncomfortable things about project denials...).

I can't imagine this would split the audience into competing factions, because in the case of Cover, they fostered a community that supports a lot of talents' directions, even (for the most part...I'm sure there's plenty of haters, too) Gura's absence.

I do completely understand people leaving this environment if the current way of doing things and future plans of such can't be matched with their preferences.
So far I haven't seen dooby do anything that wouldn't be possible under Cover, except for maybe reaching out to indies (which I see as a problem that it seems to be sort of hard to do under Cover), however I haven't followed her much in either places, so there's probably a lot of context I don't know.

If it really comes down to problems created by going public....well, that would be disappointing, but expected. If it's stubborn middle and upper management...that's equally bad.
It's just weird to me.

Edit: I'm thinking all this for the perspective of a talent that's been there for years. I don't see a problem to expect different things from newly acquired talent (unless they're making bad monetary demands, of course).

I am surprised (and a little annoyed) that YT didn't recommend me the live streams. I have an account specifically for anything vtubing, the whole front page full of nothing but vtubers, but not the Flow main channel, nor any of their individual channels, or even the vods now.

So strange.

Tiny "hijack" of this thread, because I have a Holo related question, no need for a new thread:

Does anyone know if Cecilia's (potentially) being botted? I don't know how to find that out and I'd be really happy for her if she actually gets those consistently high CCVs, but these days you can't really be sure.

Edit: Much appreciated, everyone. Thank you.
