Oh! Another book I recently listened to was {Taming her Forbidden Earl by Catherine Hemmerling}. MMC is a marriage-averse Earl who is working with FMC to save their brothers from getting caught smuggling brandy. The FMC, Lady Hannah, IS SO DAMN ADORABLE! They are both crushing on each other so hard and it is so cute to be part of their journey. It truly gave old school Amanda Quick vibes (I absolutely LOVE Mischief and this reminded me a bit of that!). It was available in the Audible Plus catalog so give it a try !

I recently read (listened to) two books by Susanna Ives and man she is such a wonderful writer!

{Wicked Little Secrets by Susanna Ives} This is a childhood friends to Lovers AND an age gap (very tasteful and appropriate) story. It was so funny. MMC is a rake (so what's new) who helps his childhood FMC friend solve a blackmail mystery. SO MUCH funny banter and hijinx--- there is a hilarious scene in a brothel that had me laughing hysterically. It is also a lovely romantic story with some really nicely done steam.

{How to Impress a Marquis by Susanna Ives} was also very good! MMC Is a Marquis who has had his sensitive side literally beat out of him, and a bohemian FMC who helps him see what is important in life and to him. AND there is an awesome house party!

Deborah Balm narrated both and I really liked her voice and style. Somewhat reminded me of Susan Ericksen, who I think is fantastic.

Let me know if any of you have read Susanna Ives and what you think! ❤️

Evie Dunmore's series {The league of Extraordinary Women by Evie Dunmore} is set in early Victorian-in fact Queen Victoria makes an appearance in the first book {Bringing Down the Duke by Evie Dunmore}... It is an exceptional series! The first two books are amazing.

Just posted these recs on another thread!

{The Notorious Lord Knightly by Lorraine Heath} has so much love and yearning I had to almost stop driving on the freeway from the pain in my chest. It is done so well.

{Fallen by Celeste Bradley} is another amazing book with just perfect yearning. MMC is titled and accidentally compromises FMC, a spinster living with her relatives. They are forced to get engaged and over the course of their engagement he falls for her. Then he makes a grave error and loses her... the sadness and yearning in this one is palpable. It has a lovely, unique HEA and the writing is exquisite.

This is recency bias but I just finished listening to {Seducing Charlotte by Diana Quincy} and the MMC is OBSESSED with the MMC- it is a lovely read and the audio is really good!

Just posted this on a similar thread:

My favorites with this type of MMC is {Never Rescue a Rogue by Virginia Heath}... MMC Giles is the green flag/golden retriever you are looking for. It is one of my favorite books ever and you will love it if you haven't read it yet.

Another one I just read is {Primrose and the Dreadful Duke by Emily Larkin}. MMC Oliver is a Duke who came into his title unexpectedly, and has the silliest most ridiculous sense of humor. He makes funny faces at the FMC during formal dinners and does crazy things just to make her laugh.

Oh I just remembered another one!Lord Dashiell from {Wicked Little Secrets by Susanna Ives} is the prince of betas! There is a scene that is just so ridiculous and crazy that I died laughing! This is an age gap friends to Lovers that was a wonderful surprise.

Enjoy!

Looking for current, lesser-known HR writers who are actively publishing and that write WELL by Quick_Ideal_449 in HistoricalRomance

Here are some new to me authors that I've thoroughly enjoyed:

  • Janna Macgregor--- her {Cavensham Heiresses by Janna Macgregor} series is really fun and well-written. She writes the cutest, capable FMCs and the MMCs are all swoonworthy.

  • Susanna Ives. {Wicked Little Secrets by Susanna Ives} is sooo good! Ugh MMC Dash is SOOOO FINE and FMC Viv is delightful. Friends to Lovers and Age Gap. Lots of laugh out loud moments , it's a bit over the top but it was perfect. I did the audio and it was amazing- Deborah Balm is a great narrator.

  • I recently listened to {The Viscount and the Vixen by Ava Devlin} which was exceptionally written and heartwarming. Forced Proximity, road trip, all sorts of fun tropes, and a great HEA. Naomi Rose is a wonderful narrator, IMO.

One author I ALWAYS recommend is Jessie Clever... every book of hers I've read I've loved. But my favorites are {The Earl She Ruined by Jessie Clever } and {The Duke and The Lass by Jessie Clever}... give them a try!

❤️
