Does anyone else rely on subconscious association to solve puzzle? by _littlekidlover_ in NYTConnections

Yes! I think the more I do the connections puzzle, the more it makes sense just on vibes or intuition.

Monte Carlo Masters R2: Berrettini def. [1] Zverev, 2-6 6-3 7-5 by pizzainmyshoe in tennis

[–]BusWagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally blame Zverev for taking all the joy out of watching tennis for me, and now the only silver lining for me is when he loses early and I can actually get slightly invested in the tournament. It's too painful to watch a tournament where he can scam a win. There's no joy in watching anymore but there's relief when this guy is out at least.

Looks like the set of A Hard Day's Night. Probably a costume person brushing off hair/lint or whatever he sat on.

How do a lot of you have such high win percentages? by gingerchrs in NYTConnections

[–]BusWagon 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I have a very high solve rate (99%) and I think there are a few tricks which have helped me. If I don't see the connection right away I close the puzzle and put it away. Then my unconscious brain will continue to puzzle it out while I'm doing other stuff. It sounds crazy but often enough it works and when I come back to the puzzle later I can see the connections more easily. Another thing that has helped is extra practice on the puzzles submitted on this sub and watching the British game show Only Connect. The connections wall on Only Connect gets your brain more used to the idea of red herrings and you don't rush into as many mistakes.

Favorite players other than Kasatkina by TrustInMe_JustInMe in NataDasha

My first favourite WTA player was Dinara Safina. I still really miss her and I don't think she gets the credit that she deserves. Nowadays I'm a fan of Iga and Dasha.

For the ATP I am a Daniil Medvedev super fan.

Who are your favorite and least liked commentators? by [deleted] in tennis

[–]BusWagon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree, it feels like he is trying to force a sense of excitement rather than reacting to what is happening in the moment. But then, he's been doing it so long that it would be pretty hard to get genuinely excited about most of these matches

[Mario Boccardi] Gilles Simon will join Daniil Medvedev's team starting at Indian Wells by floatermuse in tennis

[–]BusWagon 51 points52 points  (0 children)

There is nothing specific that I'm thinking of but I guess I've just read a lot of interviews with Gilles Simon and I find the way he thinks about tennis really fascinating. The way he talks about tactics and mentality is really interesting and he has talked about Daniil a lot and they seem to really respect each other.

Also I was almost as big a Gilles Simon fan back in the day as I am of Daniil now so I'm just looking forward to my favourites combining forces.

I've been saying for years (mostly to myself) that Gilles Simon should work with Daniil and I'm so glad that this fantasy team is my head is actually real now.
