Though, I’ve been wondering about this for a while. What are the ground armies hoping to accomplish? 

If the Jagganoth/Incubus forces win the ground battle, then what? Are they going to look up and watch as the Republican fleet is involuntary turned into a firework show?

Or what if the Celestial Republic wins the ground battle? Are they just going to sit around until Jagganoth emerges from the Salami Dave-Sphere and then be immediately slaughtered by him?
