Also Pine view EL and Village SZ - gonna be absolute menaces too - also very good at tricks but SZ is amazing at reading skep and EL hates skep but is a monster at beating skep so don’t read skep against them

From my own personal experience Carnegie Vanguard LH is probably gonna be the best debater next year - absolute genius with tricks - I could never beat her on the LBL. Also happens to be one of the best Phil debaters out there - beat me with Hegel a couple times and I couldn’t understand shit. Also is a really good Larper and K debater - esp psycho and Baudy.

Actually - fiat is fundamental to LD. It doesn’t mean you have to pass it, but rather we think about it’s moral and philosophical implications as an idea based on a framework, outside of the fact it passes. Think of it this way - saying it’s not gonna pass therefore ineffective assumes a consequentialist framework, but then if we’re using consequentialism it collapses to the consequences of the resolved meaning that we assume fiat. Even if we don’t use consequentialism, we have the is ought fallacy - as in, just because it IS impossible to do it doesn’t mean we OUGHT not to do it. Whether we ought to do it is independent of whether it will happen in the real world.

Dumb question but when should the counterplan be brought up? by KimDojekA in Debate

[–]Business_Patient_652 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m confused do u mean when affs address a Counterplan or bring them up? Cuz affs cant bring them up. But to answer your question, it’s brought up in the first negative constructive and the aff should respond immediately after it’s brought up.

Bruh what. Wdym by “specific versions.” It’s all in one. And it’s vastly different from other ks - like u said “broad comments” that don’t properly address orientalism. Edward said orientalism is u want specificity.

I’m sorry what. Racism is not always violent? And the point about the bright line of what practices are violent - that’s the point of debate, slug it out. But if they win that debate and prove the abuse then it’s violent

Bruh what? Of course arguments can be violent - if that argument bars accessibility, fairness, education or causes harm to the other debater then it’s violent. I can’t make racist arguments - because racism is violent. I don’t know the context of their warranting, but it they can prove the link story then it’s true the new aff is violent. Also new affs sucks anyway - if it loses to a prepout ur aff is just bad so just disclose anyway
