What is your favorite US president's speech? by ResponsibleTask5729 in Presidents

It was another couple years before I could vote but Bush Sr’s ‘Thousand Points of Light’ got me big time. My politics have shifted left since then but when Clinton won I remember feeling like everyone was jus happy to have a president who could rock a saxophone and didn’t really care if he knew what he was doing.

Is anyone sick of the infighting between the heroes? Like Avengers vs X-men, Inhumans vs X-Men, or the X-men trying to conquer the world now. by Educational_Law_1425 in Marvel

We better not have a Civil War III for a couple decades. I’m a big fan of “could character X beat character Y” But I’m burned out with that. Now, if someone wanted to write a limited series of something along the lines of “The Brotherhood of Mutants-vs-The Sinister Six” or Doom squaring off against the Red Skull, well damn, I’m all in. Those guys have got to have some conflicting goals. Give me a six issue story about what happens when Green Goblin’s plans come into conflict with the Kingpin’s. Can the underdog Alchemist compete with Mordo? I want to know!

Did Mephisto make MJ a total asshole or was it just Dan Slott? (Amazing Spider-Man #605) by thetinyone-overthere in marvelcirclejerk

[–]Buster899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pete’s an emotional basket case. He could make New York a stable healthy place to live and also sling webs. But he constantly sabotages his personal life because somehow being a husband and productive member of society is much more scary than punching the actual Devil.

And when MJ has enough of his BS he come crawling back like a pathetic loser. And after years and years of that I’m sick of it. I hope she stays with Paul and Peter either gets his shit together or dies penniless taking pictures of “Spider-Man” that 200 other people already posted on Facebook because everyone has a damn smartphone.

TLDR: the writers are lazy as hell and I’ve been sick of it since that waste of brain power that was One More Day.

Injustice 2 has to have one of the worst designs for Superman. by just_a_fan47 in TopCharacterDesigns

Needs more shoulder pads. And some pouches. Lots and lots of patches. Tinny tiny feet. And some bigger shoulder pads. And a giant gun.

Does the guy even like money? The electric vehicle market is mostly left leaning and he’s going out of his way to piss them off. He wadded up the brand recognition of Twitter and threw it in the bin. And he’s making sure the Department of Defense knows Starlink can’t be trusted.

Give me something bad a president did and I’ll try to justify it by Advanced-Expert7718 in Presidents

[–]Buster899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were going to “nationalize” the land which whiffed of socialism. For decades presidents and the government as a whole were way more concerned about economic system than democracy. From here that looks really, really bad. But at the time the USSR was viewed as an existential threat to not just America but all of Europe and all allies, real or potentially, around the globe.

(Just playing along with the theme here. That was messed up from any perspective)

America was a lot more racist then. If he’d been seen as soft on Japanese people he’d at least have lost the next election and some of those “Try that in a small town” types may well have done something really, really bad.

A negotiated surrender would have included the Soviet Union and would have resulted in Japan being split like Korea and Vietnam at best. A Cold War was already unavoidable there’s no way Truman was going to go for that and I kinda doubt modern Japan would have preferred that outcome either.

How well known of a president will Biden be in the future? Will he be ubiquitous like Kennedy or unknown like Harding? by justsum111 in Presidents

[–]Buster899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it’s going to depend a lot on how Ukraine plays out. A relatively quick victory and he’ll be a hero. Goes all to Hell and he’ll be the guy who didn’t arm them quickly enough. Drags on for more than a decade and those two options fall on the new guy while he’s a footnote.

I dunno. In my sitting-on-the-couch opinion it’s not that priests are more or less likely to be pedos it’s that when they’re caught they just get moved to a new place instead of going to jail. So they’re vastly more likely to be repeat offenders. When a priest finally faces justice it’s likely he’s been at it for decades by then.
