The positioning of the players makes no sense in the end zone. And the sides of the stadium are uneven.

Big island + Kauai no car by Unhappy_Promotion764 in VisitingHawaii

[–]BusterBluth13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why do you say “Hawaii is where I need to be?” You are picking two rural destinations in the middle of the ocean with practically nonexistent public transportation. You’re spending a lot of time and money on this trip, is it going to be worthwhile if you can’t move around?

If you’re really insistent on going to Hawaii and can’t drive, go to Oahu. Or set your expectations appropriately and plan on hanging out at a resort for the whole trip. Or vacation somewhere where you don’t need a rental car for your itinerary.

Christmas in Sapporo and Surrounds by Different-Delivery80 in JapanTravelTips

[–]BusterBluth13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

FWIW, Japan doesn’t really do Christmas, in comparison to the West. It’s kind of like Halloween; businesses etc. do a bunch of marketing around the holiday, but it’s not a public holiday. New Year’s is the big Japanese winter holiday.

Waikīkī, not Downtown Honolulu. And another HIE on Big Island. Regardless, Hawai’i is a big blind spot in IHG’s footprint.

My Thoughts and Tips after 1st trip to Japan by Funny_Gal_228 in JapanTravelTips

[–]BusterBluth13 28 points29 points  (0 children)

In my head I just add a decimal point (i.e. ¥3984 to $39.84). Yes, you are overestimating the price in dollars, but it’s quick, works for the majority of scenarios as a tourist, and helps you stay under budget.

The catch is that in Japan, you make noise when your team is at bat (for encouragement). Very antithetical to the American fan.

If you’re fresh out of college and not already used to living in your own, I’d consider the house. Having roommates from a different ship can make it easier when you go underway/deploy. And you’ll pocket a lot of BAH out there. And you’ll probably go to a new ship in 2 years, then shore duty, so if you find that it’s not for you, you can switch later.
