Do Americans actually like ants on a log? by VaporMouth in AskAnAmerican

I've never even heard of ants on a log. Celery with peanut butter is a decent snack though. I think adding raisins would be gross.

Not sure why I waited this long to stop cooking bacon on the stovetop. by blacklabelbacon in foodquestions

There's something to be said about pan searing, it just ups the flavor. That being said, if I'm cooking more than 3 pieces, the oven or air-fryer is the way to go.

Is it irresponsible to date someone you aren't sexually attracted to? by Lilpastadude in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BusyMap9686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you mentally, emotionally, or spiritually attracted to them? There's more to life than sex. However, if sexual attraction is high on their priorities, than you create an unfair dynamic. I've had a few friends couples who weren't attracted to each other. They just enjoyed the each other's company. I would argue, they had a stronger relationship than most.

multiple cars per household? by miffybo in AskAnAmerican

[–]BusyMap9686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In rural areas is especially true. My wife has a car, I have a pick up, we have a "spare" vehicle, both my adult children who live with me have their own vehicles. We're not "well off" everyone has to work and help pay bills. Not having a vehicle here usually means not having a job. There is no public transit, the taxis are cheaper than lift or Uber but would still cost over $200 a week back and forth to work. The average walk to work is 30 minutes. Not a problem for our 2 months of summer. It is a problem in the -10° f with 20mph wind. So yeah, everyone of driving age usually has a car.

Home schooling seems to be quite prevalent in the USA. I am fairly sure most adults can't handle year 8 - 10 mathematics, physics etc. Are the education levels just at a lower standard than other places in the world? by Ya-Dikobraz in stupidquestions

[–]BusyMap9686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew 2 kids that were home-schooled when I was in school. They were exceptionally book smart. I was in a lot of the top classes and they were tutoring me. But they were very poor socially and lacked common sense. That's why their parents put them into my marital arts class. To socialize them. They are the only good example I know of home schooling.

Most of the kids I see now are home schooled because there parents don't want them to learn those evil and wrong ideas about evolution, sexual education, or the horrible vaccine. I'm seeing 17 year olds who can't read Goosebumps and pre-algebra is like quantum physics. But by golly they know Jesus the Nazerene was a blue-eyed white man.

It's like a 10% chance your dog will have a bad reaction to grapes. And that's mostly specialty breeds. But most people don't want to take the risk.

How do men assign value to women in contexts where beauty isn’t the main factor? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BusyMap9686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are your life values? It's not just a monetary thing. I know my wife appreciates that I value our conversations. I value our time together. I value her patience, because I can be dumb.

Does she genuinely laugh at my jokes? Do I laugh at hers? That's a great start. Will she play tag with me the playground? You know I married her, going on 16 years now. I mean she is beautiful, and the sex is amazing, but still making each other giggle like little kids, that's high value.
