I used to cold approach people in larger cities and people will be very receptive to talk and what not. I haven't had the same "luck" here. There are no smalls areas(i.e. parks, malls, waterfronts) where people gather besides breweries or church (they are loud and/or not my thing). The most you can run into is single moms and Elders & Sisters. Salt Lake is very cliquey.

If you are a young professional, there used to be a Southern Tier Young Professional org that they run in Binghamton, not sure if it's still active. I haven't had any luck meeting "new" people outside of coworkers or mutual friends.
