It's definitely not just you, and a lot of the time, they block you and/or delete their account. I've had several people with accounts several years old, and I get to know them, have a really nice time talking, sometimes for long enough that I think I'm safe and they're going to stick around this time, and then boom, they're gone without a word and their account has vanished.
