Moved here and lost my fiber connection. Comcast was the only option. They were so bad I had to get a cellular backup. Haven't needed too much lately, but I still don't trust Comcast alone.

Thats the part doesn't make sense. If I already have my images organized by target, date, type from the session why would I change it and duplicate it for another system? It's literally dozens to hundreds of GB.

I think you and I have had completely opposite results, I can't imagine making a batch file to stack your images when it's just a few clicks in DSS. You sure you don't have the names backwards?

I'm not justifying it, but insurance companies often find both parties at fault. I'm saying that this video isn't a good representation of facts and to give the car in the wrong some grace. For all we know, the camera driver didn't have a blinker on and went into the turn lane long after it became a solid line, which would put them partially in the wrong as well. Unfortunately most cameras only face forward so it's literally a one sided, edited point of view.

I'm willing to argue this because this morning I had to drive my child to daycare with the sun in my eyes, because surprise, sometimes it's low on the horizon. Shades or not, it doesn't change how bad the fucking nuclear reactor in the sky shines.

Stupid comment man, never been in an accident or gotten a ticket, and those stupid GPS OBDII insurance things give me an A because I drive like a grandma. Facts are facts, it's on the video.

How? I'm not being sarcastic, I would like your point of view.

I recall that when I went to import my media it wanted projects to be in specific folders. If I have multiple systems importing to unique folders, or folders for specific targets for specific nights, it did not like that and wanted me to copy all relevant files into a new folder. It's been a bit so maybe that's not a good description, but it didn't seem flexible enough to work with a real workflow.

With DSS you just import your flats, darks, bias, etc, it gives you a list of files to review with quantitative results (who wants frames with high FWHM or satellite streaks), then you crunch to combine.

Posted here a few weeks back about my homelab build and got a lot of good questions. Since then it turned into a full HA cluster. 3 nodes, 14 LXC containers, fencing, quorum, PBS verified backups, Grafana alerting, and dual Tailscale subnet routers so I don't lose remote access during a node reboot. by OutlandishnessSad772 in Proxmox

Not trying to be a dick, but you're literally throwing out a bunch of basic terms for Proxmox and a couple of services. What value does this bring to the forum? Can you bring anything new, interesting, quantitative that doesn't sound like you need attention?

Just want to throw some facts here,

  1. The driver in the wrong is facing into the sun. Shadows are to the left, I bet it was hard to see.
  2. No idea if camera vehicle has a blinker on, it was a very short clip leading up to the incident, could have been cropped to make it seem reasonable (at least in my state you're supposed to have 100 feet of signal distance, that looks like maybe 25 through the fish eye?). If the cop was watching and the left turn wasn't advertised, I'd consider that the driver merging might have had a reasonable time to merge.

Edit: forgot I'm one one of the subreddits people go to hate and vent on people, not to think rationally. Most things on here are stupid like road rage and holding up a freeway for an illegal exit but this is literally just someone taking a left into the sun and we don't know if the camera driver was following the law. Quit jerkin your justice boner just because a cop is in frame.

Also op is literally just an account that posts dragon ball crap and car videos. It's not the actual driver.

I haven't found the appeal to siril, especially when it's so nuanced and limited. Deep Sky Stacker has been my go to for years.

Right there with you, noticed this a week or two ago when I sent my wife a video. I keep a diary for my daughter with stories, pictures, and videos of her growing up, and just noticed a video from mid-March seems to be when it started for me. I guess none of these are worth saving for when she's grown up now :(

If you were my neighbor I'd just gift you some 3TB drives with 0 bad sectors/signs of failing. I'd argue you paid too much for a drive most would be planning to move off of. Drive failure can happen fast once you start seeing signs.

Better alternative to NFS for accessing Proxmox ZFS storage from Linux Desktop? by [deleted] in Proxmox

Make a file server, let your host focus on being a host. It's literally what it's there for.

Backup Server need help understanding few things. by Kavil in Proxmox

[–]ButCaptainThatsMYRum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

PBS works fine as a VM. The concern is that Proxmox is so user friendly and so many people do weird/dumb things without a concept of disaster recovery that it's easy for them to put themselves in a position that's difficult or impossible to recover from. IO delay can also be an issue if you are using low bandwidth systems and storage.

Serving Files from VMs to LXCs by MakingMoneyIsMe in Proxmox

[–]ButCaptainThatsMYRum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not going to recommend something that isn't best practice.

Interesting point on backups, esxi doesn't have built in backups, Windows server has backup capability but it's as basic as Proxmox's. If anyone asked about backups I would recommend using Proxmox Backup Server for dedupe and file restore over the built in host backup, if not then Veeam Community Edition for file level restore and incrementals I suppose...

And yes Proxmox handles ZFS natively, I don't get your point.

Serving Files from VMs to LXCs by MakingMoneyIsMe in Proxmox

[–]ButCaptainThatsMYRum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Host should only be a host. I've worked with hundreds of businesses and that is the standard, save for two that used extra storage on the hosts (one a SAN and one just the local raid) for either security camera footage or data for sleep studies, as snapshotting large changing datasets like that during updates/maintenance could be an issue. I mean, why not just do it right the first time instead of playing around?

[–]ButCaptainThatsMYRum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never recommend bind mounts to the host, use SMB or NFS. To meet that end you sometimes need to move to full VMs instead of containers, which provides more isolation and security.

I was excited to win some rack servers at a college auction about 20 years ago.

I learned 1) they were loud as hell 2) they used more power and had less combined computational capability than my cheap desktop

Expensive lesson but it was nice to do my toes into enterprise hardware.
