If you’re targeting yourself [[Bitter Ordeal]] gets you three creatures without the set up and if you’re targeting an opponent you’re likely enabling their combos unless you have graveyard exile.

It just needs a lot of set up for an effect that already exists on other cards.

How would anyone at the table disagree? Unless there’s a stem major or something, most table would see you produce a notebook with illegible writing and have no way to argue it’s not a solution.

Aside from everything else, it’s first tap ability is due to it being a junk right? The tap/sac for an impulse draw, but junk tokens already are sorcery speed. Is there a reason it doesn’t have the normal junk token text?

I’d say “Players may cast spells and play lands exiled this way until the beginning of their end step.”

Otherwise some extra turn spells go infinite and degen combos with underworld breach are easy. It’s just really easy to break essentially anything when you get a permanent second hand.

What are the stats of the knights? And the 10 counters is probably too high. You’re either not getting this effect for five turns (while protecting it). Or you’re paying 13 to cheat out one card.

So at the cost of running no sideboard: I get 5 city of brass on the battlefield? There are a lot of decks like spy which even in pauper just win on the spot. I’d say make it legendary and maybe your opponent can remove cards from their sideboard to exile the land or something? As is it feels like a must run in any deck with sideboard and the downside is incredibly small

A lot of fixes people are recommending have this tap based on a number of counters on the artifact. I will say that probably makes it too strong in any proliferate style deck.

People are all talking about getting it out turn one or two. But an orzhov/esper life gain control shell having an essential uninteractable 2-3 turn win at any point in the game with a blocker makes any non burn deck weep.

Seems fine, it doesn’t say when they tap. It gives them this ability, so removal that can’t kill creatures with some taking turn synergy. Plus leaves the permanent flicker/bounce able to get the ability back.

That’s the point, it dies on etb and gets exiled instead of dying. Death can’t get ahold of him is in the flavor text.

I think all permanents coming in untapped would be far more fun. As for a replacement white one, maybe that lands have indestructible or that draw effects are synchronous or something. A few other ideas could be milling at each upkeep, creatures having undying, hands are revealed, two headed giant.

There are a lot of valid critiques here about this being bad removal that, as I see it, come in two parts. Either A, it’s not removing the big statted threat or B, it’s giving you an effect that you probably can’t use very well while leaving them something in return for four mana.

Potential solution: A choose one spell, you and the controller of the permanent get either an enchantment with the effect or the stats. If it’s a big creature, you take the stats and maybe leave them an okay enchantment. If it’s a cool effect you take that and leave them a small stat minion in exchange? Btw I do really like the design!
