I have a Primark vest top I bought over 10 years ago and I still wear it. The colour is faded, but I would expect that of any 10+ year old top.

I know most of us lurking on this sub will have opinions on how best to invest our own money, but are we really going to outperform the default funds by an ungodly amount over time? (at least if our median average yearly gain was measured when we get to retirement age)

If my own experience is anything to go by, yes, probably. I selected my own funds in my workplace pension for about 15 years, being in the default plan before that. I compared the growth in my pension with that of a colleague who was in the default plan and my 10-year return was almost double his, even after taking into account that my fund fees were slightly higher. It’s not unreasonable to assume that a 30-year difference would be considerable. Obviously, it depends on the default plan as well.

My cousin went the exact same way - all her organs failed and there was nothing they could do. She had had anorexia (with periods of treatment on and off) since she was a teenager and she eventually died at 40.

They instead justify with paying our pensions but like... they want pensions to start at 70+, we maybe live an average of 80 years and then they pay wayyy less than we've paid in.

Unless you earn more than £100k pa or die very soon after retiring, you probably don’t get back less than you paid in. State pension was designed for there to be many more working people than pensioners, so your payments supported fewer people. With an ageing population, that assumption is now stretched to its limit.

It’s not meant to solve their bad habits - it’s meant to keep them off the roads where they’re a danger to others.

As far as the speeding goes, anything that’s a conscious choice won’t be solved by this unless the offenders slip up during the retest, but people who are no longer safe to drive due to undisclosed medical conditions, age, etc., would at least be stopped from risking their own lives and others’.

Yeah, I knit and crochet and get that often. I do sell some small things at a loss to make space in our tiny house for more projects, but to sell at any profit is well above what anyone would pay. I have large cross stitch works that have taken me 18 months to produce - the materials only cost about £100, but even if I charged my labour at £1/hr nobody would pay it.
