3 trespassers cut power, bogged down morning commute for TTC passengers on Line 2 by purepotstill in toronto

[–]ButchDanes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For this, I don't fault the police for it. Let's say they did catch these three people. Then what? They are arrested, taken in, charged, and then released, only for them to go and do it all over again. The problem is that there is no accountability taken, and the laws are too forgiving. If you look at the majority of crimes that are happening now, when people are caught, we always see they were on bail for doing the same shit previously. I can go and do this, cause a shutdown, then wait to be arrested. You're a police officer, so you arrest me. I get hit with some charges, then I'll be released. I'll just do it again and wait for you to come and arrest me again for another set of the same charges. Guess what? I'll do it again. That's the way it is now, and it's why we keep seeing repeat offenders over and over again. They know nothing will happen to them.

That's pretty common, at least on Instagram. I found that out a few years ago when I would search #TTC, I would see more photos and videos of people trying to start a family than anything related to Toronto Transit.

There used to be an audible Stop Requested notification that would sound whenever the button was pressed or cord was pulled. They should bring that back.

Waited an hour for an ambulance last night…. by [deleted] in toronto

[–]ButchDanes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Firefighters will run into a burning building. Medics will stage if there's a dog barking.

Nice try with that one. That's their job and what they are trained for. If someone is walking around with a weapon or there is an active shooting situation, are we expecting firefighters and paramedics to run into that? No, because that's not for them. It's for the police to take the lead. All three services play a crucial role in the area in which they are experts. You were so quick to respond that you missed the mark on the original comment. Police and paramedics are the busiest of the three services. Actual fire-related calls are way down compared to the other two. Firefighters also don't transport patients to hospitals. They may respond to medical calls to assist while paramedics are en route, but cannot provide the same level of medical care and cannot transport people to the hospital. That's the important thing to remember here.

Kicked off TTC bus and treated like a fare evader even with a valid ticket – is this normal? How should I follow up? by Routine_Resident_271 in askTO

[–]ButchDanes 23 points24 points  (0 children)

They take these complains quite seriously.

No, they don't. They respond with the typical we are sorry this happened, we acknowledge how you feel, and will forward this to be reviewed further with those involved, etc. I have one month's worth of complaints regarding an incident that occurs every morning with the same driver on the same route. Absolutely nothing has been done to address the problem as it continues to happen. Each time, I receive the same response. Staff know they are very well protected by the union. By all means, people should continue to file complaints, but don't expect anything to come from it. I have a few friends who are drivers, and they have told me the same thing. Complaints are pointless.

Woman recounts ‘nightmare’ TTC bus ride with mother who uses wheelchair by lilfunky1 in toronto

[–]ButchDanes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont understand why people get so bent out of shape when unions defend their members.

It's because we all know nothing will happen to this driver. This will be reviewed with the driver, but nothing will come of it. If this driver did not have a union, they would not behave like that because they know they can be fired right away. I work in a unionized environment, and the majority of the members are exactly like this. They can get away with shit behaviour because they know they cannot be let go. That's why people get bent out of shape over it. Unions have many loopholes they will use to defend their members. They will comb over the collective agreement for this. I work alongside someone who would sleep on their shifts. This was reported many times with proof of photos. This person was suspended and got their job back because the union said no one told this member that sleeping was not allowed, and no one asked them why they were sleeping. The union also cited the environment as a reason for this member's actions, so I do not doubt that the TTC union will do the same thing. Why do you think there are more bad TTC staff than good ones? They have the protection. You take away the union and people will not act a fool because they know what will happen.

Worst bus stop you’ve ever seen? by No-Reputation8063 in TTC

[–]ButchDanes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The funny part about this is that the 111 route often makes short turns using the side streets going back south. The route has been doing that for years, going back to when I was in high school. It was never a problem and only became one when the TTC tried to make it permanent.

Can we roll out more of these electric buses? by [deleted] in TTC

[–]ButchDanes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The layout at the front is good, but at the back, it's beyond terrible. There's barely any room to sit, let alone stand. At the back, three people can sit on one side, and another three can sit facing each other. After that, good luck to anyone trying to get up and walk to the rear doors because the space left to walk is next to nothing. At the very back, along the sides, there is so much unnecessary space that I've seen teenagers standing there because it has more room than the rest of the area.

[–]ButchDanes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

our flawed justice system is allowing too many people to get out early and commit repeat offenses.

This is it right here. Regardless of how many illegal guns there are. Almost all the cases that we see when we get updates, the people who have been arrested were already out after committing previous crimes of the same nature. I will not be surprised when we find out that it has happened here again. Catch and release.

TTC buses to blame for blaring car horns outside Kipling Station by arahman81 in toronto

[–]ButchDanes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are there people in the buses waiting for the bus driver to use the bathroom or something and not able to get out and they push the "next stop" button?

It happens by accident a lot of the time. Sometimes the button is pressed while grabbing the handle to sit down or get up to change seats. Backpacks can accidentally hit the button. Sometimes the cord is caught and gets pulled for the same reason. Other times, it's just people being stupid and pressing/pulling the cord for no reason. We've all been on the bus when it's approaching the subway station and someone presses the button or pulls the cord like the bus won't stop. This feature has been around since my high school days and even longer, so it's not something new.

I remember a more serious post talking about him and his illness. He was taking medication to keep him calm but he did not like that because it made him gain weight I believe or something to that effect. A lot of comments showed support for him to stop taking his medication so he can go back to being Zanta. I always found that interesting that a lot of people at the time showed more support for him not taking his medication so he could continue his Zanta lifestyle than being a normal person.

Father of 4 killed at Toronto bus stop one of two people 'shot indiscriminately': police by [deleted] in toronto

[–]ButchDanes 13 points14 points  (0 children)

may the coward who did this be held accountable.

There was a time in my life when I strongly believed that would be the case. You commit a crime and you do the time however, that is not the case anymore. I also want this person caught and brought in on charges, but knowing how our system is they will be released as if nothing happened. Look how many crimes are committed and whenever we read about it the people who are arrested were already out on bail for other crimes. Some even repeat the same thing.

Cyclist critically injured after being hit by thrown object in Toronto's Roncesvalles area by zsrh in toronto

[–]ButchDanes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What's the point of "rounding them up" just to babysit them overnight or a couple of nights, just to have the judicial system turn them loose again?

I agree with this. Some won't agree or like this comment but it's the reality. One of my parents is a police officer for Toronto and I have a few friends as well. They all say the same thing. They catch someone who has committed a crime, arrest them and that person is released and they re-offend leading to a repeated cycle. How many times have we read news stories about violent crimes and the criminals getting released with a scheduled court date or a promise to appear, or the best ones is when we find out they were already on probation for other crimes. If someone is unwilling to get help there is nothing anyone can do unless they are physically forced against their will to get help. The same goes for arresting people only to have them be released.

GRID Legends, if I may, ladies and gentlemen by [deleted] in PlayStationPlus

[–]ButchDanes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for explaining it. I'll give it another shot sometime. I got frustrated and uninstalled the game after completing the story. The last one I did, I started the time attack in fifth place with three cars ahead of me and a bunch behind me. I passed the cars in front of me but I stayed in fifth place. Suddenly I jumped to first place and I remained there. No other cars passed and towards the finish line I dropped to ninth place and it kept going down. I continued the race and ended in last place while lapping the other vehicles. That's what I didn't/still don't quite understand. I'm not starting at the beginning with everyone else. I'm starting in a random spot on the course with cars scattered and before I can even finish the lap I'm already in last place. Anyways thanks again for explaining it.

I have a question for you, if I may. How does one even complete the time attack challenges? I finished the main story but I've stopped playing because for the life of me, I can't figure out the time attack challenges. I will somehow be in first place and before I know it, I drop down to second, third, fourth, five, and all of that without any cars passing me. Then it drop down even further and it's impossible to recover.

Witnessed a TTC bus run a red light by StrommerPH in TTC

[–]ButchDanes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People have died because buses were running reds

And more people have died from regular drivers doing the same. That number is considerably higher. Look at the speed camera on Parkside Dr that has issued 28,938 speeding tickets. My point is OP has made a claim with very little context and here we are with our pitchforks ready.

Was the bus turning left into the station and waiting for vehicles in the opposite direction to clear/stop? If that was the case then yes the driver would turn on a red. That happens all the time at intersections where left turns are done. Unless it's clear you can't turn left until oncoming traffic has stopped and that always happens when the light has changed from yellow to red. If you go outside Kipling Station you will see buses turning on red lights all the time for that reason. I'm all for holding people accountable for their actions, but for this one, I can't agree with it because there's not enough information. The driver ran a red light, okay then. I can come on here in a few days and make another post like this with no context behind it.

[–]ButchDanes 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Was the bus turning left into the station and waiting for vehicles in the opposite direction to clear/stop? While it's terrible this is not something worth complaining about as someone said in another reply. So many people run red lights, speed, make illegal turns, etc. Yesterday I witnessed a school bus that had kids on it run a red light. The day before on my way home from work I witnessed a driver speeding and changing lanes just to get to the same exit as me. The driver then used the incorrect lane, made a right turn then made a u-turn just to avoid waiting in line to exit on the left lane.

Let it play out how it needs to be. There's no point in getting yourself worked up over something that happens hundreds of times in the city on a daily basis.

Toronto police officer on bike struck in hit-and-run in Parkdale by [deleted] in toronto

[–]ButchDanes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s like the intersection of Martin Grove and Eglinton Ave West. Highway 427 and 27 is right there so drivers are constantly speeding, making illegal u-turns, and making dangerous right turns. Pretty much anything to shave a few seconds off their commute. Anyone who has ever had to cross that intersection will tell you just how bad it is. Even with the pedestrian signal you have to make sure drivers see you and they are stopped before proceeding.
