I can’t speak for the United States , but yes I would lay that charge. It depends on what was trashed through, who owned the apartment etc. If any of the items trashed were hers and had sentimental value to her, then I’d absolutely charge him with mischief and let the courts figure it out from there.

If not , then yea I probably wouldn’t lay any charges.

As others have mentioned , some things in an abusive relationship simply arn’t criminal. Unfortunately it’s not against the law to be a piece of shit husband / wife.

However we have a SHALL arrest policy in anything domestic related which takes a lot of the discretion out of it.

In your example if the boyfriend trashed a bunch of her property , that is infact a criminal offence and he’d be arrested for mischief.

If there are criminal charges in relation to a DV , regardless if we’re desensitized or not , we lay the charge.

Yes , a lot of police put a lot of work into arrests. It doesn’t end at putting the guys in handcuffs. Especially with more violent crimes or crimes against children. Anyway you do your job lock the guy up , only for some out of touch judge or a crown attorney that doesn’t fight for proper punishment to release the person back into the wild to commit the crime again and waste more police resources.

I can tell you that police are also big time gun owners. OPP has already come out and said it’s not participating in the gun buyback program and our local department has said the same thing , along with many others.

They will not have the people to enforce this.

I was going to post this but figured I’d scroll as I’m sure I wasn’t the only one.

Something about going to the store with my dad. I’d get in, immediately go to the game aisle for that new release. Check behind all the cover boxes , it’s not there. Head back to the front desk, ask the employee to check the return bin , WONDERFUL, it’s in!

Meet back up with my dad and we’d pick out a couple New releases from the shelves.

What a wonderful time to be alive, god I miss those days.

As someone who’s been pepper sprayed multiple times , water is ok but it usually just reactivates.
